anyone called sony singapore to confirm?

haha....

COme on guys...give priority to those who genuinely have the problem lah.
Dont treat this like a hello kitty offer....:confused:

Hello Kitty Offer still got to pay...this is FREE. :bsmilie:

Seriously, no point rushing for this. Best to check if there is any timeframe that existing 5D and 7D owner need to get this fixed. If there is none, just enjoy your cam until the problem appear. IMHO is best not to repair if possible.

Looks like I have to change mine as well... getting the dark frame every now and then... I suppose if SSC has the diagnostic tools that were dug up by the forummers on Dyxum, they will know if the ERROR 58 shows up on your camera or not... cannot fool them for a free shutter assembly change... anyway best not to change it unless there is a real problem... u never know what else may go wrong... electronics always like that... if it ain't broke don't fix it! Also the SSC engineers, are they from KM? Otherwise it's going to take a long long time cos they have to be very careful with something they are not familiar with!

Ok bros, got back my camera... SSC did it inside one week! Woah!

Anyway I don't know what they changed for your cameras but for mine, they changed something called the "Change Cam Assembly". I called Seah and asked him what that was and why the shutter assembly was not changed. He told me that this was the part that needed to be changed and this was modified part that they used... something like a gear...

I really have no idea what the recall recommended for replacement but I am crossing my fingers I don't get the black screen again... it's darn scary cos u think your camera just bought it... bleah....

This tally with what was posted sometime back on this issue...

Yeah thanks bro for confirming... Seah did tell me it was a gear and it was modified... so I guess SONY is listening... anyway the link posted on another thread in the SONY forum here also puts SONY people in very good light... the interview with Phototraveller of Dyxum forums showed that they heard a lot of our complaints and are working on them... guess it takes time... and it seems that SONY is now embracing the Minolta heritage.... woah! Gets better and better no?

Just got back my 5d, same report of "change cam assy". Happy enuf with what they've done to leave my other one with them. TAT was only 3 working days and counter staff were friendly. :thumbsup:

the error happen again in my camera, actually i just sent to ssc 3 months ago and now the warranty is over already.. sick

Cheer up....if it's the dark frame problem, SSC will repair it for free even if it's out of warranty.:)

U meant u sent it in 3 months ago for servicing or to replace the cam assembly? 3 months ago, the recall wasn't even out... so I guess it was just a general servicing? This replacement is not bound by your camera's standard warranty... my camera is way over the warranty (3 years old I think? Or is it less??)

yup, the guys are right, the replacement for problems related to error 58/ dead first frame are FOC at the moment.

i think it useless to change again now, since the problem may be back in a short period of time.. :devil: i still can stand with the problem

btw if im not mistaken, in my camera, the black frame problem will happen if i dont use it for long time.. the first time it occured when i hadnt use for about 4 months (really no use at all for 4 months), then i found out last sunday it happened again when i hadnt use it for something like 3 weeks.. Is my oppinion correct?? ;p

@TME
my camera was still under warranty 3 months ago, i sent it to ssc just about a few weeks b4 the warranty finish :) in the log report, i saw that they got changed the part called shutter assy..

It's not the shutter assembly at fault. It's the cam assembly. The thing that charges the shutter and releases it when u depress the shutter.

yup, thats what's said on my report too "change cam assy".

blueshift -- no harm getting it replaced, foc anyway, even if the problem will recur, at least you've got a fix now. :devil: btw, 4 mths is a very long time to not touch your cam. at least take it out, power up and take a shot or two every week, otw how wud u know if its still working when u need it in 4 mths time? :dunno:

Ow so you mean the have found the exact problem? And if i go change the black frame won't be happening again?
Btw, what should i say to the ssc so that i can get a free service even mine out of warranty? :bsmilie:

@Trigger Happy
It was like I bored with photography things :devil: (ya, you know sometimes we can be bored of smth ;p ) so that i left the camera in the box.. Everytime i need to take photo, i used my pocket one..

Just tell them that u get a black frame on your first shot and that SONY Japan has issued a replacement notice... the SSC has two counters, one for SONY and the other for KM... the staff who man the KM booth have some idea about the replacement thing... but often the SONY counter staff will double up to serve the KM counter... that's where they don't know what's going on nor are they really interested... so u have to describe the fault. Just put down "first shot black frame" will do. The technician will likely call you if he doesn't know what u wrote down... and the technician is knowledgeable, name's Seah... he was from KM and dealt with the DSLRs.

only death and taxes are certain. :think: if your first shot is always black and the camera hangs requiring a power off/on with "ERR" in your viewfinder then its the same problem. it was only recently - a month ago? - that sony isolated the problem and issued a replacement notice although only in US and Japan websites. i called sony here and a Ms Sabrina from the service centre confirmed there was a staff notice to that effect. my only unhappiness with the ssc is they never contacted the local km folks or issued any such notice - act blur? :dunno:
