Increasing interest in RF

Tell yourself anything a RF can do, your sub $1000 dslr can do. So no need to go crazy over a RF, to me it's just a cool looking toy camera. But if you want to convince yourself that a RF or film SLR is better than DSLR, of course you can.

wa tats harsh....thats going to invite another round of criticism...i guess u need to go back into history before u call a RF a toy camera???

Actually any camera can take nice pics...a few bros here own a dslr as well..i guess its more of a personal preference to choose the camera that suits oneself...no one is challenging and putting up rules on wat camera can be used for wat kind of situation...so there isnt really a need to bash a RF...mechanically..its much more complicated than a dslr to be called a toy camera...if it is..then maybe u can consider building one of these toys to use...

i don't think anyone is trying to say that RF cameras are better cameras than DSLRs... even iPhones can get you great pictures over bigger, bulkier, and often more expensive DSLRs.

at the end of the day, it is whatever equipment you enjoy using... part of the joy of photography is about the end product, but the other part of it is to do with the journey. DSLRs / SLR / RF / MF / Lomo / Holga / iPhones / Compacts / Large Sensor Compacts / Bridge cameras / Prime / Zoom / Flash... these are all different ways to capture your image and enjoy your photography journey.

so let's just enjoy our own journey in photography and images, and appreciate that others may have different views... and not get too fixated on which is better than other or other to the other one.

I think RF is more about the process of taking photo, framing, manual focus etc whereas dslr just press button like machine gun, af super fast ...

To each his own dude. Watch out on the RF bashing eh? Especially in the RF Sub Forum.;)

in fact all the film cameras i own are like toy cameras to me.. and when i say toy cameras i'm not insulting them. I mean they are non-sophisicated, simple fun things to use, like toys.

oops if what I wrote sounded like bashing.. I've no intention. In fact I love my RFs and SLRs.

Lets keep cool guys.

RF is like enjoying a glass of Brandy and vintage wine. (You think about how they made it, why they did it, and savour the moment)
DSLR's are like shot glasses of Tequila. (You pick up the crap when you go home and have 400 - 700 shots to process)
Point and Shoots are like Ribena. (You drink them and totally forget you had some)

Try explaining how your M/manual film camera works to a layman on the street. They will say its ''Cheem'' to use.
Give them a point and shoot, and they say :''Yeah I know how to use this.''

Now tell us, who is the toy? :)

RF is like sitting down & enjoying the life with a bottle of vintage Dom Pérignon
Old technology but ages well & tastes exquisite no matter which time line of your life.

Build to fine mechanical movements like a Patek Philippe, only meant to be appreciated by some.

I would say, DSLR is like a Tag Heuer, well build for the masses, for exquisiteness, you have your RF like a A. Lange watch.

Only meant to be appreciated by a privileged few who has tasted it.

i don't think RF should be "reserved" only for the privileged few... certain segments / products within RF could be forbiddingly high for some, but RF cameras range all then way down to the compacts and "budget friendly" M and LTM models.

RF certainly should be available to all to appreciate and explore, be it that you eventually decide to love them / hate them.

There are no reasonable digital RF alternatives -- M9 is priced too high for the value it offers most people, M8 and RD1 are quite crippled by very old sensor technology among other things. Add to this the fact that RF users have a bit of fetishism about brand name(s).

In the film RF world, there is a lot of choice, and the quality offered is superb. I am loving the RF and film experience.

If I have to move to digital, I doubt it will be a RF.

The introduction of mirrorless cameras should mitigate the cost issue, but yes, the Leica M9 is far out of reach for most. Sometimes I wonder whether I should just reinvest in M43 or maybe the Sony NEX because the long term cost issue is not exactly small.

As much as they are non-sophisticated, they demand more skill to use. The question is whether you have the skill or too lazy to learn it.

haha, I am sure you just want to make a joke of yourself. Happy fooling!

RF is different to DSLR. I enjoy my photography journey with my Leica M9 more than my Nikon D700 and the FX lenses.

The digital DSLR has changed the definition and perception of photography since it became available. With the advanced technology, it's not difficult to capture a sharp, correct exposure and vibrant colour photo by autofocusing a DSLR in P mode. Even a small kid can do that. It's no kidding. The people have since forgotten the original concept of photography, like hyperfocusing, how to manually gauge the exposure, how to shoot with available light, how to compose, etc.

A Leica M9 won't make you a better or a lousier photographer if you already own a DSLR. Whether you can become a better photographer, it's very much depend on how passionate you are and how determined you are to learn new photography skills.

Oh yea, I meant, reserved for the privileged few as in those who have tasted the finest & appreciated it.

No I'm not joking. Please give some constructive comments so that I'm won't think that I'm replying to a 12 yr old kid.
