Increasing interest in RF

Bro i assure u that once u r on film, u will choose ur shots correctly...why do u wan to garner 100 shots and just basically use 10 to 20?

so while u r using film, u will find that you shoot more precise and u really think before u shoot.

i agree with you bro!
last time on my dslr i see anything just wack only.
but using rangefinder is different, sometimes i didnt even get over 5 shots.

Agree with that. However I still shoot pretty fast for a film shooter. Hahah... Must capture the decisive moments Mah!

haha even till now i haven finish that roll of film from that day we went to the art house..
and tml i meeting the buyer for my rf liao..
die tml anyhow wack to finish it haha!

To me, why RF? Simply because it brings to me more joy in photography... matter of fact, my 5DMkII feels like a machine gun nowadays and its often neglected!

...and before i forget, the streets genre is darn powerful!

If i may add, frame 36 is always special!

I have a burning question for long time RF users -- is there a discernible difference in IQ between Leica and Zeiss ZM lenses? Hope it's not heresy, but i've come across many who say that the Zeiss eg. ZM 35/2 is just as sharp as the Summicron 35. If there are real differences, mind sharing what these are? Just wanting to learn more here. Many thks.

Oh I agree that there's some in truth in that.

But I'm not just a street shooter. I shoot a variety of things. Or whatever piques my interest. :bsmilie: Be it landscape, architecture, street, or random curiosities.

I agree there are too many DSLR users in Singapore, especially those new users who just bought a DSLR. You can typically see these stereotypes trying to steal one or two candid shots with their kit lenses. Those newbies who did it incorrectly and irritates.

I believe it has nothing got to do with what types of cameras you use, it is the approach you do with your intended photographic subject you want to photograph at that moment of time. Personally I also got irritated by those newbies trying to take a candid shot of me, it made me feel they are trying to snoop on me.

Just imagining this, comparing trying to take street shots using a DSLR and a Voigtlander RF, which one catches the eye the most? Guess what, its the latter. I believe people already gotten used to pple totting DSLRs and they are a bunch a many out there. But unlike RF cameras it shouts out very prominently. When I bought out my DSLR on the street the most I got is a quick stare from the man of the street. When I bought out my any of my Soviet RF, I got a quick stare plus occassionally inquiries from people is my camera "Leica"? Its a ice-breaker of sorts.

i am ok with using my existing setup. i tried to stealth myself as much as possible (not taking those sneaky shots), but my cam + lens always gives me away and ppl start to shoo me off before i get to shoot haha.

maybe there is really too much DSLR users in singapore and it kinda irritates most ppl when they get 'shot' or they felt 'threatened' by such shots (maybe they scare that their photos will be misused or uploaded to stomp for some reasons).

my trip to HK and Melbourne is very fruitful and especially Melbourne.

Melbourne

HK

Basically i can shoot in HK and Melbourne and ppl wun care a hoot what i am doing. I can take my shots freely.

You can't do this with a SLR...

wa v steady hand....

but if u notice something, the amount of handshake that a rf can take compare to dslr is so different...

i tot my hand moved but my pics turn out clearer compared to using a dslr...at the same setting or shutterspeed....

Just scanned my roll of ektar...will share them soon!:)

yeah it's possible to take shots with an rf at really low shutterspeeds..

took these at either 1/4 or 1/2 sec, while under the influence!.. kinda blur but still usable imo..

Hmm thats reminds me of my Agat-18K compact camera. Not RF btw, but its so tiny and look like a toy I can just hold the camera in front of the subject and take the shot without him/her noticing it. Thats the beauty of compact film cameras, no mirror slap like SLR.

Why RF?

not just because it is so simple with only one speed dial at the body and one aperture ring setting at the lens to adjust...
not just because it allows you to focus straight to the point you want precisely...
not just because it is easy to focus in dim light...
not just because it looks cool and different from others...
not just because you want to challenge yourself to set all things manually...
not just because they are lighter and smaller than other type of camera with similar high image quality...
not just because the shutter is quieter and more stealth...
not just because it is the brand with a red dot...
not just because it has long history of tradition...
not just because it has whole range of beautiful fast glasses...
not just because some great photographers use them so I want to be like them...
not just because RF camera are mechanically beautiful and reliable...
not just because it is fun to use...
not just because xxxxxxxxx...

I guess you need to try it yourself to understand why so many crazy people like us enjoy RF...:D

Taking a picture of my kids in the swimming pool with a DSLR will attract the guards. But not with a smaller camera like a P&S. Size does matter.

thats what i said. :sweatsm:

for street photography... RF/pns is much suitable due to it's size. And without those ppl know you are shooting them, they are at their most natural moments.

Nowadays most discreet camera is iphone4 lol

That is the next 'camera' I am aiming for! Haha...

i LOVE FILM...

the feelin is just different.

Just 2 days ago in Macau along a street was an old lady sitting by an ancient door steps n she just smile at me waving her hand at my direction, and my instant tot was to snap her...

so i quickly took a shot of her and the whole day, im feeling so good...i just kept telling my friends "i got a shot"!!!

Amazingly i have not even seen the picture and im so satisfied!:)

Yes, you have seen the picture when you saw the shot in your mind.
That is when the picture is made.
Getting the actual photo is the materialisation of the photo, but that is not the point of creation.
In fact, I had lost all my photos in Jordan and Egypt, but my mind is like a database that I can see each and every photo I took.
Even months after... I was surprised myself!
And that is why I see my photos so often in things/ scenes around me...
And its so depressing.... sighhhh......

Learnt composition, framing, lighting etc with film SLR then went digital a fews years later..

Now back to film, shooting with RF of course..

Full-circle I say.. ;)

Cheers!

Actually you may use a 70-200mm f2.8 lens or a 300 f4 lens with your DSLR to do street photography. Just hide somewhere and do a super zoom without the subject's notice.

We are not saying 'you cant shoot street with longer lens, or with a DSLR'.
The thrill of street is the possibility of interaction and communication between the shooter and subject.
Going near gives a kick unlike a long lens can provide.

Do you have any samples of street shots with such extreme zoom?
