In what ways is 7D better than 5Dmk2, and vise versa.

one is a sports car
one is a luxury car...

each cam is design for its own purpose and own segment (sports and wildlife shoot vs portraits and wedding stuff and landscape)
it depends on which one you want.
image wise unless you pixel peek ... i dun think its much of a diff.
so what do you wanna compare on the btw the sports car and luxury car?

if you want a luxury sports car ... go buy 1Ds series lol

so the 1Ds series is Audi R8?

hi guys, i jus sold my 7D off cos of 1Ds mk2. i was havin both body for a few months n tot of keeping both.... but ended up neglected my 7d. 1ds mk2 is 16 mp ff compared to 5Dmk2 yet IQ wise is better than 7D.... colours were more saturated n rich. at times 7D looked dull (im talkin bout non PP pics as norm i ll PP my pics).

so 5d mk2 IQ is much better. i guess although its not 1.6X crop sensor, but u can still crop as its a 21mp FF sensor n still get very good pics. so reach wise, 5d mk2 dont need the 1.6X extra.

Can we see the difference in image quality between 7D and 5D MKII when we dont blow the picture up?

ppl like to compare 100% crop photo to determine the IQ. what do you mean "dont blow the picture up" ?

When i looked through reviews, they would say focus on one part of the pciture, then expand to compare the IQ. So i was wondering if i did a direct comparison and look through our PC, would there be any difference?

Maybe can you explain what does 100% crop photo means? Perhaps that was what i meant. ;)

I havnt really use 5D2, but I must say 7D user interface or button layout and menu is much easier and friendly compare to Canon 40D.

if you used to 40D, then when you close your eyes, you can operate 5D mk2 too.

50% landscape and 50% sports?
you can forget about 5dmk2, 7d is much more versatile.

i've seen people shoot sports with a 5d m2. just my 2c. it boils down to what is your main pirority, imho. or to make it easier, your budget. heh.

FYI, 5DMKII ISO could even go to ISO 50 if you need to.

ISO 50 does not necessarily mean better IQ than ISO 100. It's the base ISO that matters.

I know 5Dmk2 is full frame, hence it should take better pic than 7D.

but does anyone ever take a pic in 7D and 5Dmk2 and compare it side by side. Are you sure we can see the difference?
Went to a shop last week, took a test on 7D and 5Dmk2 both using same setting and same lens, shooting at the same subject.
But i cannot tell a difference. Too bad i cannot post as it was using the shop memory card.

I know 7D has excellent AF, how about 5Dmk2? I know this topic has been discuss before, but after seeing the pic side by side, i decided to start this topic again.

Hi,

just curious, if you can view the picture and you had already mentioned the pros of the cameras then why you still need to further the issue?

I read some information that the good AF for 7D would be if we somehow try it in different scenario while for sure I know 5D MKII ultimately the entry level for full frame has been loud and seized the crown position to be one of the best ISO achievement DSLR for quite some time.

It surely depends on what you want from the camera too.

Frankly,

There is no best of both worlds....and I daringly would say there are alot of canon users sharing the same thought.

In short:-

1) You can go for both the bodies (2K+3K=5K) Happy man with FF and 8FPS
2) Forget it, go get 1DMK 4; performance is almost there of 5D2 and 7D except it is 1.3 crop and only EF lens.
3) Wait and pray harder that 5D3 or 3D launching soon with the 19~27 AF points and more features added like 7D. You need to probably fork out 4K+ for it.
4) forget both - Jump Ship ....Go for Nikon or something else then....

Am I am still yearning for the ultimate camera....;)

Yes I do know about this, as mention I bring out this pts just as an FYI for TS.
This setting is there if one need slightly longer exposure.

now i really 1 head 2 big.

seems like 7D is more suitable for me, now i even poison by others taking about 1d series, is 1dmk3 at 1.3x comparable with 5Dmk2?

I have a budget of 3-4k for body, no need lens as currently i have 24-105 F4, 50mm F1.4, 70-200 F4 IS and a Canon 40D.

Haha.... me too... anyone can lend me a 5DKII to try it out? :D

u are comparing the best specced aps c camera on the market with an entry level full frame. decide what u need it more for.

no point comparing against the 1 series unless u willing to fork out the $$ and carry the extra weight around.

All else being equal, comparing just the images from both taken with the same composition, lens etc, the 5DII will produce a better final result.

even if it is in normal size?
