In what ways is 7D better than 5Dmk2, and vise versa.

I know this topic has been discuss before, but after seeing the pic side by side, i decided to start this topic again.
How about stating what kind of photos you wish to take with a camera?

one is a sports car
one is a luxury car...

each cam is design for its own purpose and own segment (sports and wildlife shoot vs portraits and wedding stuff and landscape)
it depends on which one you want.
image wise unless you pixel peek ... i dun think its much of a diff.
so what do you wanna compare on the btw the sports car and luxury car?

if you want a luxury sports car ... go buy 1Ds series lol

My experience with 7D is pleasant.
I would say 7D ISO 3200 is quite useable but of cos this is subjective for some.
If high ISO is not a big concern for you, I guess 7D should suit more on your need with it fast AF and burst shots for sport. As for landscape shooting, u won't be using the high ISO since most of the shots are suppose to be mounted with tripod and set at ISO 100.

Should you are into wide angle shot, I guess you could just get a UWA lens for the 7D.

have you try the ISO reduction function found in the MENU?

I am comtemplating to get a 7D, if 7D +10-22 for landscape and shoot at ISO 100, i suppose it is comparably to 5Dmk2 at ISO100 right ? I understand someone mentioned that 7D below ISO1600 is comparable to 5Dmk2 ISO3200?

If it is comparable, then i can get a 7D for sports and landscape.

landscape
candid
food
sports
birds

this are my general interest, i do not take macro shots, but occasionally will take close up on flowers.

For sports/action, street/candid, birds and animals - 7D

For portrait, landscapes, food, still life - 5D2

My 2 cents.

my sentiments too.

given sports and birds, i'd recommend 7D over 5D because a 7D can still double for the other aspects of photography. i'd say don't worry too much about image quality, and worry more about mood and feeling.

I'm not able to comment on the ISO reduction function as I'm not sure did I try on that setting before since I didn't meddle with this setting.

If it is enable as default not sure does it also affect RAW files?
I mainly shoot in RAW format.

IMO, 5DMKII still win hand down at ISO 100 as it noise lvl are suppose to be cleaner due to larger sensor size. FYI, 5DMKII ISO could even go to ISO 50 if you need to.

As mention previously noise acceptable level is subjective for each person.
So I'm not sure do you see the difference as a major concern?
Of cos if u dun do pixels peeping I guess you wont notice too much on the difference also.

Anyway here are some good read up in comparing between these 2 bodies.

FF gives you a wider FOV standing at the same spot compared to a crop, but it does not necessarily produce a better picture :)

Seems like your 50-50 interest in landscapes and sports is giving you a headache.

For 5DmkII - miss out the faster fps of 7D which will make a difference when shooting fast action.
For 7D - lose out on the better noise control in 5DmkII but IMO it shouldn't be a major issue if you don't shoot at high ISO very often.

Each camera has their own pros and cons, but which is something you really cannot live without? :)

I know 5Dmk2 is full frame, hence it should take better pic than 7D.

but does anyone ever take a pic in 7D and 5Dmk2 and compare it side by side. Are you sure we can see the difference?
Went to a shop last week, took a test on 7D and 5Dmk2 both using same setting and same lens, shooting at the same subject.
But i cannot tell a difference. Too bad i cannot post as it was using the shop memory card.

I know 7D has excellent AF, how about 5Dmk2? I know this topic has been discuss before, but after seeing the pic side by side, i decided to start this topic again.

I have to agree with this.... So 7D it will be for me..... I was also thinking about this for a few days....

Buy both or 1Ds MKIII =X
:bsmilie::bsmilie:

1DsM3 only 5.0 fps, still lose out to 7D :bsmilie:

Or get the 1DM4 lor. 10.0 fps  Crop factor of 1.3x just nice in between 5Dm2 and 7D. :bsmilie:

I havnt really use 5D2, but I must say 7D user interface or button layout and menu is much easier and friendly compare to Canon 40D.

1 thing which nobody mention, 5D does not have in-body flash.

Bokeh on 5D2 shd be much nicer thot.

Due to high resolution, it really take up lot of HDD space which is quite annoying sometime especially when PC is walking slowly.

lol, 1DM4 still not a FF 1.3 crop. =)
Maybe need to wait for 1Ds M4..

I agreed on the built in body flash... Is really good to have especially want to travel light overseas...

High resolution is good to have and for cropping.
For me, I always resize to my LCD monitor screen size once i complete my PP.

I did buy both bodies. They are the best you can get from Canon but than i have to stick to buying EF lens only.

Something I miss after getting the 5dm2 is the ability to use the 18-200IS lens...

I think getting both might answer this question. However, getting both might not make sense if its just a hobby.

What difference you want to see? You already said same setting and same lens. Unless under extreme conditions (ie. if handheld, with sensible shutter speed) regardless of camera brand, you would get the same image.
