student said:I have nothing against DP at all. Absolutely! I had supported his "campaigns" to "freedom of expression". But I disagree wth his unrestrained style of "expression", especially when I know that his command of the English language is more than adequate to give truthful comments in a civil manner. I would prefer to give critiques with a dose of love.
In this particular instance, I am against the attitude of those who cry foul just because others had taken DP's method of critique to comment on DP's images.
Red-I said:To be honest, I doubt DP or others in the habit of dishing out such sarcasm are such nasty people in real life.
student said:I can assure you that in "real life", DP is quite likable! (like what Wisp said about me!)

The 2 images belongs to candid as i see it. DP's make a mistake by posting here, so now everyone who was waiting to pound on him will not miss the chance. Quite uncharacteristic by those, cos they claim that DP "set the standard" on free commentaries on images on the forum, so now free for all to comments.
DP's comments in the past was not friendly i agreed, and harsh too most, but, i strongly agreed to his comments, like it or not.
His comments was direct, fierce and actually, pointed out the mistake.

StreetShooter said:I think it was Atticus Finch (in Harper Lee's "To kill a mockingbird") who said: "You never really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them."
So let's try standing in his shoes. Where is he coming from?
Anyone remembers the show "Dead Poets Society" starring Robin Williams? I do. A simple Google search throws up quite a few interesting insights into why our friend chose his particular nickname.

It's basically about a teacher who passionately tries to teach non-conformity and free speech to those under his charge. Isn't that what DP stands for?
The catch-phrase "Carpe Diem" (seize the day) can indeed be applied to these particular snapshots - taking advantage of a serendipitious moment.
The tragedy (and we can learn from this) is that in his enthusiasm to teach non-conformity, one of his students commits suicide (maybe someone was too harsh in his critique?).
Anyway, I still believe we should try to be polite as far as possible.

Perhaps my photoshop skills are so good that you did not even know that?

Stereobox said:afterall, i quote DP himself "The rights to the freedom of expression is absolute. You even have the right to express, even if you are wrong, misguided, unfounded, or misinformed. You will make a fool of yourself, but you have the right to do so."

this one is classic!
I'll remember that.
student said:And you conveniently and selectively forget falsely accusing me of being anti-photoshop?
Well, Cedrick could see from some of my images that they had undergone a lot of photoshop. Since you accused me of anti-photoshop, it only makes sense that you could not see what Cedrick saw. No? Or would you selectively forget this also?
I hope not.
Such selective memory loss can be a harbinger to some serious mental disorders.
Or have you started in that journey already?
Stereobox said:short of quoting every single scenario in question, other than putting ourselves in his shoes, why not step into the context of the others?
i believe i would be speaking for a number of us here:-
in general, there is no problem whatsoever with the purported principles of freedom of expression, embracing of non-conformity DP so advocates. for those who have a problem with conforming to un-confirmity, even more kudos to you!:sweatsm:
no problem whatsover with the so-called championing of the right to speak 'truthfully' and not sugarcoat patronising comments (disclaimer: as long the wishes of those who don't subscribe to that are respected). for those who took to his comments badly, too bad. if you are strong enough to stand by your works, no one is going to take anything away from you, u can only gain from it. a bad response just shows a weakness in character.
personally, to a certain extent, i don't even have a problem with the way DP expresses his criticism and "critiques". all here are able to see for ourselves and decide the kind of character he presents himself to be here. there's no need for the extra hoo-haa questioning of his photographic credibility or credentials either.
however,
i do have a pissed-off pea-in-the-pillow with the way DP hides behind all the grandiose freedom evangelical speeches he so oft-preaches here to launch scathing personal attacks which falls nowhere in the category of "constructive". the most obvious example of which (to me) is this. to a much smaller extent, the way he conveniently using the same "principles" he subscribes to as a deflection shield to dismiss the responses (some ill-intended, mostly rational) which happen to be made in the same name of free speech.
Streetshooter, is this the characteristics of an enthusiastic teacher of non-conformity? a tragedy of the wrong analogy, maybe.
With all due respects, Sir, I sincerely believe you have made your remarks as a result of a carefully researched background, not a serendipitous moment in moderation.
this is so dreary! i'm going to enjoy my long weekend =)
