In Rome on a sunny afternoon, guess who I ran into at the Trevi Fountain!

Well, Cedrick could see from some of my images that they had undergone a lot of photoshop. Since you accused me of anti-photoshop, it only makes sense that you could not see what Cedrick saw. No? Or would you selectively forget this also?
hahaha.. i saw your pictures before.. you dont need photoshop to do that.
You'll just need a lousy scanner and stupid scanning settings to result such images.

and you call them photoshopped?
and you even said your photoshop skills were so good?
:dropdead:

I can see who has the serious mental disorders...

An impromptu photoshoot follows :)

La Dolce Vita

IMG_4493web.jpg

At first look, I thought these 2 pic were all right to me. But as enlightened by Mr Photo of being more demanding in pictures, the more I see, the more questions I would like to rise. What camera did you use to shoot these pictures? DSLR / Prosumer or consumer? It is wasn't DSLR, I would definitely understand as a prosumer user, that prosumer and consumer cameras do have a lot of limitations and are inferior compared to DSLR.

For the first picture, notice the right hand side: there is a disjointed arm touching the unicorn's (I think) head which I'm not very comfortable with. Not forgetting the left hand side about the window too... Also, the harsh shadow on her face don't really look good too. From what I've read from magazines that the harsh shadow will make the nose more pointed and eyes sunken which is a no no. solution: fill in flash? Thirdly, the background is neither sharp nor it is total blurred background. Or is it just out of focus? I'm not very comfortable about the reflections from the water, maybe a polariser will solve the problem?

For the second picture. The top is kinda distracting and I don't think you include it in your composition on purpose. Cropping the top off definitely looks nicer... Secondly, sleepy eyes? was it intentional?

Hey, I'm just giving him the benefit of the doubt.

I hate his guts as much as you do. (free speech, right? I can say that right?)

As for the carefully researched background in serendipitious moderation: le kong simi?

indeed, i understand you are giving him the benefit of the doubt, so do many of the kind forum readers here.

very benevolent to say, but the question for me is, does anyone actually benefit from it?

i'm just presenting my views - what i read, interpreted and understood out of the "situation".
others are free to choose their stand. i do not claim to speak the (quote) "absolute truth" (hehehe)

i don't hate his guts. i can't imagine myself sitting in front of the computer monitor, silently seething in anger, typing out hate-mails. we don't even know each other! not worth it! like i said, the issue at hand for me was more like a "pea-in-the-pillow". small enough to be insignificant, but irritating enough for me to try to do something about it. i can live with it, but....why should i?

well said =)

as i've mentioned before, please continue to enjoy visiting the forums and looking forward to reading more interesting posts from you.

Stereobox

1st pic. Should've used slower shutter speed to capture water movement..
2nd pic. Overall pose looks weird, especially head position.. She like using her hand to hold up her head.. Tighter crop would work better, stones around model does not add anything to the feel of the photo

Honestly, I read all 7 pages of drama and here is what I personally feel, the lessons learnt... (mistake here, cannot use "personal")

1. Judge not lest ye be judged yourself.
2. CSers prefers politically correct comments. Criticise, but do it with grace, nice words. Unless you know the fella personally.
3. Photography has become a technical thing. Because you cannot look at photography through the perspective of art, therefore no personal comments. If it is art, then it evokes an emotion, which becomes personal. And by the way, no one here agrees that art is subjective, that means, there is no right or wrong. I personally think most those photographic societies' award winning photographs are ****, crap. And some of those world renowned fashion photographers shoot so much better because they evoke more emotion, and photojournalists, like our own Mohd Ishak @ ST kicks ass and can shoot images to bring a tear to my eyes. But suddenly in CS, art is no longer subjective. WTF. Everyone is a art critique?
4. You are never to make mistakes in here... the others are all waiting to spit you out of their mouth. You are to be perfect. Screw up, and you are going get serious pounding. The point they are making is, you are not welcome in this community of theirs.
5. I might be reading this wrong, but then again, its what I am starting to feel as I try to support our local photographers' forum.
6. We have missed the bus. (Come to your own conclusions with this comment).

I write this with a heavy heart, because I have expected that CS to be a place where people share photos (and passion with photography) and grow together. I guess I am the one who is naive. Its back to asking opinions from people I trust when it comes to this art, better this way... at least I am getting real comments. Or maybe its simply better to hang out at some camera shop and sharing ideas with like minded photographers... CS has failed miserably in what they have set out to do. Yeah, flame me or call me a jaded film to digital photographer. I have no credentials, am not a pro, just someone who expected to make friends with people who share the same passion for photography. But what I see here is simply downright nasty. Thanks to all the "Simons" in here for the entertainment.

Sigh...

we should just leave the critiques inside the critique corner. most of the time i think i just see nitpicking criticism (not even at the level of critique) everywhere, but if that's the reality then it reflects a certain category of people that CS is attracting, and there's really nothing right or wrong about it.

I think this thread is a special case lah, everywhere we go will have some politics one
Somehow majority of the CSers are still nice people :) .
Indeed these are more like snapshot, but I do see it relevance here.

this is assumption!

I guess I know stereobox well enough to say that he might not agree on some of DeadPoet's way-of-pointing - he does not hate him personally. Voicing up his opinion does not coherence with keeping an anger toward DeadPoet.

Hope this make a clearer picture.

and DP,

WELCOME BACK!

the support parts, i couldn't really read into it. people just pass it off as his harsh words left for others being just another comment because they didn't get those themselves.

but on another note. i do think, by far from the posts i've seen after DP started posting again, that he has indeed changed and improved for the better. and that this thread should deserve its rest. :)

Do you claim to know everything how things should be runned? Shush, the world isn't perfect. You don't need CS to reflect yourself.

I think it is time to close this thread and move on.
