In Rome on a sunny afternoon, guess who I ran into at the Trevi Fountain!

Oh come on.. whats so big deal?

Yes, I agree with most of you saying they are snapshots of corina.

But tell me, which of you today NEVER EVER TAKE SNAP SHOT? are you already a God-like-photographer, who commends every single "SNAP" is a masterpiece? IF you go for a shoot, lets say and you press the shutter 30 times, and are do you get all your 30 pictures usable?

What I can sense is more towards personal attack on DP.
Come on.. cut the crap.

it's not a big deal. people are merely expressing their opinions on the shots. why so protective about it and the possibilities of the replies being personal attacks?

if most of the people agree that this belongs to streets and candids why isn't it moved there yet anyway. geez.

There is absolutely no big deal.

NOBODY here is a GOD-LIKE-PHOTOGRAPHER, although there are God-like-photoshop beings who created things out of nothing. We all make lousy photographs, athough some gods could grant salvation to these lousy images with photoshop. The lesser beings will just have, well, lousy snapshots.

What people are doing here is to heed the advice of DP to give honest/direct/unsweetened comments on these images. Can you point where the comments on these images were inappropriate?

Where is the crap?

yup. it is personal attack (at least to me). it is jus to tell DP dun think with a good command of engrish he can play around as if he is king.

anyway i can see he is still in his burrow. yr spineless weeseal is out liao, master.

i find that some of us are giving truthful comments on his pictures as a matter of fact. and the way he calls someone a troll, ain't that a personal attack as well? this is getting pretty outta hand. and what's with our dear moderator, streetshooter? :dunno:

No big deal..actually...it quite befitting him actually......freedom of speech n being frank to the point of being scathing sarcastic/insulting ..that his usual style ...he advocate it,practise it. And now he getting it ..so wat the big deal:dunno:

It always pay to be kind n forgiving to yr fellow human beings....but to pity someone who in a position to bully and subjugate u.....is like slapping ownself in the face.

i can't believe it took 3 pages before someone finally got it.

deadpoet's sharing shots more for the novelty of meeting the model halfway across the world than looking for critiques/looking to impress.

he put them in the portraits and poses forum because it's more likely that the photographers in this forum will recognize the model and be able to grasp the magnitude of coincidence.

and you guys should be grateful to have someone to give critiques instead of ask the standard "great shot, what's your equipment?"

unless, of course, you post pics up on CS to receive ego boosts/compliments instead of critiques that help you to improve, but that's another topic.

agree with dslang. to all the people hurt by DP's comments in the past, let it rest lah.
Life's too short to get affected like that.

Please focus the discussion on the pictures posted and refrain from further OT.

Thanks!

auntie zaren pro! /me gives credit.

my 2 cts... the picture is neither fantastic nor piss-poor, the model isnt fully relaxed, there's some distractions here & there... the list goes on & on. But that's the appeal of the photo... the mood is there, the surprise of meeting someone U know in an awesome faraway place that requires 10+ hours of travel. forget technicalities...sometiems bad shots are just for memories & are interesting even if they're hastily taken...

1 nitpick is the mispelling of selfdelusioned in his copyright =)

The photo looks like crap compared to DP's usual work but it's a photo that succeeds for the photographer & viewer because you remember the incident, the far-away location, the surprise, the impromptu 'slightly over the top' pose, and U dont want to remember how well the photo was taken. (settings, camera setup, model poses, concept, props, make-up, lighting)

As for the reason for sharing in P&Poses, guess it depends on how U look at it. Isit 'candid', 'travel' or P&P because most CSer know her? :dunno:

Aww... thats the crap. You cant see the crap as long as you live in the crap.
Why? Nobody's even talking about Photoshop, and you dragged in your personal anti-photoshop campign. You're not even focused on the topic.

P.S. Im not here to defend DeadPoet. I merely know him, and I've agreed with everyone on the fact that the pictures are streets & candids.

Zaren, thats a nice work done on the cropping.

Aww....... come on. Actually I saw one crap.

And that is you talking crap. Do I need to elaborate? Who is complaining about these being snap shots? I love snap shots! And some snap shots work and some don't. These don't. These are memories pictures. Period. The comments are all direct criticisms of the images as they stood.

Now cut your crap!

waiaung said:

Well, nobody talked about God-like photographer. Why did you bring God into the picture? We are all humble people trying to make pictures, and learning humbly from DP to give criticisms in a direct/truthful/unsweeten manner.

BTW, ask Cedrick. Ask him if my images have been photoshopped? Perhaps my photoshop skills are so good that you did not even know that?

Anti-photoshop? I have the full paid up program of PS CS2 loaded on to my iMac G5. I support photoshop!

Oh no! I can't.

I have never lived in the heavenly abode up in that rarified air!

I have never been given the heavenly tools to create things out of nothing!

sometimes i'm asking myself, "Am I commenting the pictures? Am I commenting the photographer's personal view / attitute / reputation / etc?" I admit sometimes I'm being a bit personal - something like I expect 'more than that' from a fellow senior photographers whom works I adores. However Im trying my best not to be personal.

Pictures wise nothing serious about it. Just for fun pictures. ( correct me if I'm wrong ) let's just not so work up about it. Let's not being too personal.

Angel, it is absolutely right that people should not get personal when commenting on pictures.

This particular situation, unfortunately is very special.

On the surface, everybody understands the nature of these two images. These are images that all of us make on our holidays, and they can be very meaningful to ourselves. I have tonnes of these "I was there and I saw these" images.

However, DP had "set the standard" on free commentaries on images on the forum - punching directly with no gloves on. DP had insisited the freedom to comment on any pictures which do not have the preface "No Comments". Nobody says dissenting opinions are not welcome. It is the "no-holds-bar" attutude that irks many.

So now, when this opportunity arises, people are now doing just what DP recommend.

What I am defending now is not the opinions of the comments. I do not ever more want to comment on images. I am defending the rights of others to give comments in the same manner as DP.

doc,

are u doing it becos u think it's the right way to do it, or becos he does it to others/you so you can also do it to him without being in the wrong, or something else...?

I am not here defending DP, i am only here to comments.

The 2 images belongs to candid as i see it. DP's make a mistake by posting here, so now everyone who was waiting to pound on him will not miss the chance. Quite uncharacteristic by those, cos they claim that DP "set the standard" on free commentaries on images on the forum, so now free for all to comments.

DP's comments in the past was not friendly i agreed, and harsh too most, but, i strongly agreed to his comments, like it or not.

His comments was direct, fierce and actually, pointed out the mistake.

To those who hate DP, please shoot better then him and let him comments, that's the best way to get it done. Not down here thrashing comments, cos you learn nuts.

I have nothing against DP at all. Absolutely! I had supported his "campaigns" to "freedom of expression". But I disagree wth his unrestrained style of "expression", especially when I know that his command of the English language is more than adequate to give truthful comments in a civil manner. I would prefer to give critiques with a dose of love.

In this particular instance, I am against the attitude of those who cry foul just because others had taken DP's method of critique to comment on DP's images.
