We can submit only ONE image?
Sorry my mistake. You need to submit TWO images.

Hi Folks,

Jingwen left me a message for you guys last evening. I tot I better clarify with her in detail before relaying her message. :)

Her initial concern with some of your pre qualitying pics is that they are somewhat dull and dark. She would prefer somewhere on the brighter side in addition to colour and creativity.

Below is her final reply in full:

"Anyway I will not to limit you all on the colour etc cause I saw someone
asking if can be black and white...the main idea is that its spring so
if they can take black and white pictures and still give us the feeling
of spring, pureness etc,
Its fine...

Doesn't mean more colours=refreshing and romantic. It's the whole feel
that we are looking for.

Please clarify for me.

Thanks and cheers
jingwen"

Please read and pass it on. Thanks. :)

copperbird, from her reply, black and white is fine. :)

hehehhe ... 'dark' ... i must be one of them :embrass:

i got some other answers as well. have a look:

1) Will the name of the photographer be put on the exhibition?
Yes

2) Will the description of the photograph be put on the exhibition?
Yes but if the description is too long, some copywriting might be involved.

3) I understand that Luxasia will hold the copyrights but will any
credit be given to the photographer if the pic is printed in magazine? eg, Copyright Luxasia 2005, Photograph by xxx
So far we have no plans for mag coverage, if have, will inform you all.

4) Can photographers use this image for their portforlio even though
he/she has no rights to publish it?
Yes but it can't be published without our permission.

5) What is the file size u r looking at for TIFF format? the image can
scale up to very huge filesize.
Please see forum for ans.

6) Is there any preventive measure to ensure there r no multiple votes
from friends & relatives for the same photo?
No as inorder to vote, they need to be issey miyake's customer or elle readers.

7) Any prize given to 2nd & 3rd place?
The rest of the exhibit will get another guy's perfume.

thats all folks. :) i think i was one of them with a dark image too. :bsmilie:
anyway, started a thread in Abstract/Still with these qualifying images, pls feel free to drop yours in too to share.

at the moment, i am still at a loss what the organizer are looking for. although some indications were given, i do not get the feeling what specific theme/s, or directions they are looking for. so, in my mind, key works like spring, bright, creativity keep spinning in my head. help!!

If you take the notion of Spring (eg the season in between winter and summer) being the central point of the theme, it usually denotes or imbues a feeling of new growth (eg trees budding, flowers blooming, insects buzzing), freshness, renewal, verdant and vibrant colors, lightness etc.

In my minds eye, Spring is like a season of frolicking, bounciness, joy and fresh perspectives.

Now, how to translate all that into an image .. :D .. up to you all lah.

Disclaimer: These are my own interpretations and are in no way related to what Luxasia *may* or *may not* be looking for. I am just expanding on some concepts and based on some feedback from Luxasia.

C'mon guys, you have already won half of the battle with at least a bottle of perfume free, no?

Go think creatively on your own how to shoot to win, I feel it is better than to share pointers here and ended up submitting pictures of similar contents/styles.

What the client wants is creativity and independence from the photographers, and not paint the photographers with what they exactly want.

Darren has helped up alot already, so give him a deserving break. :)

Come to think of it ... what are the requirements to be able to print A2 size?

The requirement is stated here:

Darren said:
5. Image size is A2 :-
At 300dpi that translates to approximately 7050 pixels (height) x 4960 pixels (width)
At 240dpi that translates to approximately 5460 pixels (height) x 3970 pixels (width)

To print A2 (23.38" x 16.54") size at the stipulated resolution of 300dpi, your DSLR camera resolution is in theory approx. 7050 pixels x 4960 pixels or 35MP. Since most DSLR are 6 to 10MP, interpolation techniques usually are applied to "acheive" the printing size/resolution required.

If you are shooting 35mm film (Slides or negatives), scanning the film to say 4000dpi would yield approx. 5632 pixels x 3784 pixels. Without interpolation, you can safely print to A2 size at close to 240dpi.

ok, hope I make some sense here. Now, I need my bed!!!

Hi All,

If that is the case, can I safely say that a camera of 5 mega pixel will not be suitable for this competition even if we use software like Irfanview to interpolate to the required resolution.

I have tried to interpolate using irfanview with 150 dpi, only manage to reach 2588 pixel x 3450 pixel. If interpolate at 240 to reach the require result, will the quality suffer?

Am I doomed? Any advise guys ? Should I return the perfume :sweatsm:
