The KM 75-300mm.
At short end, most of these range or lens are quite sharp, but most quality start to drop at the long end, may be except the 100-300mm APO.

Hiee...

Here are a couple of images form the 500mm f8.

bro congratulate on getting yr new toys

Hi pals...

It was really surprising to be able to focus really well using AF.
Though the DOF is shallow at f8 , choosing the right distance and choise of subject size helps in balancing DOF.

Its simply a bright day lens.

definitely better than the 100-400mm APO, brighter and faster focusing as well. ;p But the weight (+ tripod) are quite difficult to manage on whole day outing

Thanks, but now even more broke

If you not on carbon tripod, do consider (more $$$)....it's lighter and much better in damping vibration which is more important for long tele lens, and try the long lens holding technique as well.

With the weight is not meant for walkaround lens.....more for setup and wait situation.

Thanks for your suggestion, using a budget Feisol CF Tripod already, which really help a lot, and more stable than my monopod (which I don't think I can get shots like 1/10s on it).
Now just need a reasonably good but not too heavy ballhead to compliment it.

Ay good sites to recommend on handling long lens holding technique?

I have problem in taking bird in flight photo also, usually the birds are too fast  Wonder how it being capture with focusing on.

ZCF, I am not a long lens person, but I am sure if you are looking at good ballhead, the Markins M10 or Markins M20 will works great.

Or if you want slightly cheaper, I think the Feisol ball head is fine too.. But I think Markins is marginally better.

Long lens Technique...http://www.naturephotographers.net/ejp0801-1.html

For birds in-flight, so far for me more success if the bird path where panning can be done and with a bright lens plus AF-C. No success for bird flying towards me. The KM5D AF is just not fast enough for this.

Good place to practice, Jurong Bird Park and watch the "Bird of Prey" show. Another option is to shoot Myna or pigeon. Can easily find everywhere but they do fly fast.

Ballhead.... generally lighter ones cannot really support heavy weight.

Feisol CF is good value .... didn't buy it cause I do not like the leg release mechanism. Too slow a for quick setup.
