It is something quite intermittent, so just admit it for checking.

2 things wrong.

1) When AF hunting, sometimes when it reaches closes focus the Focus motor will make this sound as if the gears are not lubricated.. on and off will happen, but cannot re-create. It just happy happy happen.. happy happy go away.

2) This one more serious. Happen once that is keep happening until I leave the unit overnight, next morning goes back to normal. The AF will get stuck. E.g if you are at infinity and try to AF to a close distance object, the focus will move and get stuck at a certain value (mid way) and it does not move anymore. The only way to make it go to close focus is to manually turn rhe focus ring pass that pt towards close focus. You put it back towards infinity.. press the shuttle to focus.. it will be stuck again at the same pt. Same thing will happen when u do a close focus to a infinity object. The pt that it get stuck is different.

I have a crude video at home for pt 2. I try to upload to youtube later.

I am also having similar problem - at close focus and esp at low light, AF gets stuck. Bringing it to brighter light sometimes help to get it unstuck. But intermitten problem.

Will send in Sigma hospital next week.

Maybe it is a case of trying to focus too close ???

Heres the video. The lens have the lens cap on.. so normally this should behaviour like from infinity to min distance and back to infinity. Note that I have my finger pressed on the shutter button all the time.

With the lens cap off as mentioned depending on the subject focus distance. If before the stop pt it will focus, anything beyond that pt it basically get stuck there.

D800 less than a year.

Yes. No difference.

Pussies

Cropped (left eye focus)

Yups, looks stuck. Cap on is a good test - as you say, should swing backwards from infinity to min to infinity when hunting in complete darkness. Let us know what Sigma service says.

Other than you link and the video you provided I just don't see other issues on the internet.... perhaps this is SO new or a VERY limited issue ??

That said anything new and regardless of cost will see issues.... Ford motor cars, 787 Jets etc...... Rolex may be the exception mind you ;)

How is this lens on DX body?

is there any bros here who is also waiting for the SONY ALPHA version- **** the wait seems forever.. anyone knows when it will be coming

Any one gotten this lens from Hong Kong?... Is it cheaper there?... Thanks...

Update on the lens status..

Kudos to Sigma instead of just brushing away a intermediate problem, I just received a call from them that they will be sending my lens to sigma japan so that they can get to the bottom of it. This means that I will not be able to enjoy this lens for the next two-three weeks, but then it shows that they are working hard to get to the bottom so that the product line is flawless!

Sigma Service Good work!

if your lens was newly purchased, should have just asked for a 1 to 1 replacement instead of them sending it to Japan for repairs.

it is unlikely that they will accede to such requests.

I hardly see 1-1 exchange in SG unless it was specifically specified by the shop already.

Otherwise, they just push you to service centers and service centers will just say they will check/repair.

Too bad. But are they willing to do a one-to-one exchange if there's stock?

Amazing service... lol
In other countries people would let it handle their lawyers in that case.
