Images from Sigma 35mm f1.4 dg

Just got a set also... OMG comparing to my nikon 24mm F1.4 WAH.... but both still got its pros and cons.. might post comparisons later..

24 Nikkor is still better bro... but the 35 Sigma is still great lens !

Does this focus faster than 35/2?

Pretty sure, the 24/1.4 is a SWM lens, the 35/2 is just a screw drive lens.

In term of sharpness nope, interm of color rendering & Chromatic aberration are slightly better. Bokeh both are about the same.

You meant 35/1.4?

I am not so sure. The 50/1.4 AFS turned out slower than the AFD. So was the case for the 85/1.4. Though more accurate.

That's why wondered if any guys here felt any difference, faster or slower.

Dfive was talking about the 24mm one.

yes pal... nikon AFS F1.4 lenses AF much slower then their AFD counterpart... accuracy i would say the AFD is spot on.. AFS out of 10 times maybe 2 times mis focus. I confirmed after comparing my AFD 85 with the AFS and the 50mm lens... Infact after comparing my nikon 24mm and sigma 35mm.. the sigma is slightly faster... very slight...

Whats wrong with your lens? Please share. I have not get any opportunity to use it since i bought it last Tuesday. Its been in my dry-cabi since due to heavy workload. Only testing it at OP where i bought it.

It is something quite intermittent, so just admit it for checking.

2 things wrong.

1) When AF hunting, sometimes when it reaches closes focus the Focus motor will make this sound as if the gears are not lubricated.. on and off will happen, but cannot re-create. It just happy happy happen.. happy happy go away.

2) This one more serious. Happen once that is keep happening until I leave the unit overnight, next morning goes back to normal. The AF will get stuck. E.g if you are at infinity and try to AF to a close distance object, the focus will move and get stuck at a certain value (mid way) and it does not move anymore. The only way to make it go to close focus is to manually turn rhe focus ring pass that pt towards close focus. You put it back towards infinity.. press the shuttle to focus.. it will be stuck again at the same pt. Same thing will happen when u do a close focus to a infinity object. The pt that it get stuck is different.

I have a crude video at home for pt 2. I try to upload to youtube later.

Doubt #2 can get fully resolved, some other AF lenses (especially primes) behave like that as well and they are not faulty.

Hmm...both may be explained by KO-ed motor?

No idea. Thats why just send it so they can check. Either Motor issue or gear slip.. or even connection loose. Intermittent is the issue, cannot fully recreate 100%. Lets wait what Sigma say.. I will update once I get the lens back.
