Images from Sigma 35mm f1.4 dg

Everyone says no stock... my store is holding mine till SAT ;) ;)

Better grab today. Good things never wait for anybody :-D))

Collected mine today.... First impressions ?

1. Build quality better than expected... very very good.
2. Medium-Fast Focus.
3. Great Bokeh.
4. Close Focus.
5. Nice hood with a rubber grip.
6. 'Expensive looking' aka : Hassleblad looking.
7. Crap case... But I have Lowepro Lens Cases anyways... no big deal.
8. Minimal Branding on lens, or subtle branding perhaps - clean design.

Summary :
1. Possibly the best lens under $1.5K from any brand ;)
2. Other brands should seriously start re-thinking whats possible for the $ !
3. Sharp !
4. Just freakin buy one.... stop looking for sample images ! ;)

See link this is the other lens in the SIGMA PRO SERIES range :

Sports | SIGMA 120-300mm F2.8 DG OS HSM | SIGMA GLOBAL VISION

The others to come in 2013 are a Macro lens and an ultra wide lens I'm lead to believe.

ART (A) and SPORT (S) series is their new Pro range... can't wait to see what else comes !!

" Art – These lenses are developed with an emphasis on artistic touch and are designed to meet the expectations of users who value a creative, dramatic outcome. Along with landscapes, portraits, still-life, close-up and casual snaps, these lenses are perfect for the kind of photography that unleashes the inner artist. Ideal for studio photography, they offer just as much of an expressive scope when capturing architecture, starry skies, underwater shots and many other scenes. This category will be comprised of many focal lengths and designs, such as large-aperture prime lenses, wide-angle lenses, ultra wide-angle lenses, and macro and fisheye lenses.

Sports - With their high-level optical performance and expressive power, these lenses can capture fast-moving subjects, even at distance. This line also offers a variety of functions to aid the photographer in challenging conditions and scenarios. Besides sports photography, the lenses are also ideal for nature shots featuring birds, wild animals and other creatures, and for the capture of aircraft, trains, race cars and more. The Sports line is also unique in that users can adjust the lenses’ focus speeds and the focus limiters via a button on the lens. The Sports category will be comprised of telephoto lenses, telephoto zoom lenses, super telephoto lenses, super telephoto zoom lenses, and more. "

Welcome to the club of awesome optics for bargain price ;)

Well, not really bargain but at least cheaper and better than the first parties. I hope they won't delay the A-mount version for too long...

A few shots of Singapore skyline taken with the 35mm on a SD1M.

Nice view, where did take these pictures from?
From ION Sky, the 360deg observation deck on the 55th Storey of ION Orchard which is 218m above the ground at Orchard Road. ;)

A few more on my prev post / first impressions :

9. The solid matte plastic lens barrel does mark easily, just a cosmetic thing.
10. I like manual focus with it, focus ring is nice and tight also.
11. Auto focus seems dead on !!
12. I feel its much sharper in the corners than the Nikkor 35 1.4G, and perhaps less distortion ( Ive owned the 35 Nikkor and not like it, sold after 3 months ownership. )

Any comments on the colour output? Looks quite saturated from the few pics that I see, not bad ah.

What camera are you talking about, the SD1 above?

Seems quite ok.... I'm certainly happy but I might try compare my 24, 17-35 lenses to this tonight or tmrw......

But it may also be due to peoples camera setting or post processing no ??

Of course and it depends on the camera itself as well.

35mm. Wow! What a versatile focal length. Takes me back to my younger days when I was shooting film, primarily transparency. In those days, I only have 2 lenses - a 35mm & 50mm. Took the 35mm all over Europe and it was all that I needed.

When the digital era came, 35mm was by & large forgotten (although I still shoot the 35mm on my film body from time to time). On a cropped body, the 35mm was neither here nor there but now that I am back to the "FF" format I grew up with, I have re-discovered what a great focal length it is.

So please allow me to share a day of discovery with the Sigma 35.

Started the day working with a tall, beautiful flower in the sun

Followed by more visual delights after lunch - A visit to the flower dome
Stalks of cherry blossoms standing proud

A soft, delicate flower with a subtle divine scent

Energized after a great cup of afternoon coffee and cake, ventured up to the cloud forest mountain to take in the romantic misty view

By the time we came down, dusk has begun to settled in. However, the late blue hour makes it perfect to capture some city scape

Ended the day enjoying a classic Cantonese opera song to usher in the year of the snake. It was a damn tiring day but was most rewarding. Cheers.

Need some suggestion here: I currently own the Nikon 50mm 1.8 which is already a very sharp lens. Is it still worth considering the sigma? I think the 35mm will give more room to take photo within my small flat.
