My current 2 sets suffer from the rapid discharge bug too. No such problem when I use the 2500s from Konnoc or the 2300s provided by Fujifilm. A side issue is how long should we expect the Sanyo batteries to last. Mine earlier batch of 2500s died after 80-odd charge cycles.

BTW, AhV, I've PMed you previously, as your mailbox rejected my emails.

no worries ..you are already in my first list, which i ve submitted to SANYO :) If I am not wrong, most rechargeable batts can last > 500 cycles. Maybe some of the IT guys here can clarify further...80 cycles sound too short for such investments. Do save your $$$ for the new SANYO batts - after we solve the 2500s' issue ....

cheers ahV...
well done!

That is bad. I had 5 sets of 4ea. All of them went berserk with rapid discharge just overnight! Previously, they'd last a week, which I consider reasonable. Then overnight the whole lot went to flat-after-five-hours. Because of that I put a hold on the use of my remaining 2 sets (which also discharge after a day).

I'd thrown those 20pcs away in Aug.

All the same, for you AhV.

I've taken to keeping 2 sets Fujifilm2300, 2 sets Konnoc2500. The 2 sets of Sanyos are spares... just in case.

ok, am now scouting for new rechargables. fujifilm sounds good.. keke ke!

:bsmilie:

have a nice week ahead!

As for our neighbouring CS members, I will ask them what you can do if you had bought your batts in your country e.g. M'sia I am sure you will have a solution too. There will probably be another 'AhV" in your country

From Malaysia, I mail ordered my 2500mAH batteries from East Gear, then how?

I have 8 pieces of Sanyo 2500 and they seem to be exhibiting the same problems.
Drain within the week. Batch 04-09-S1.

My 2300, 2100 and even the 1600 Sanyo battries are still ok.
Yes even real old 1600 still can hold its charge.

My Batteries.

I am using the Sanyo Quick Charger with refresh and also the MAHA charger on all my batteries.

Good job AvH. Appreciate what you are doing for us

an update before i turn in for the 'night' or morning ..just completed the list of new names

59 brothers/ sisters of CS affected ...total 582 batteries affected ...good night ! :)

AhV, first of all, thank you for your effort of helping us photographers.

I am from Malaysia, and I have bought nearly a hundred packs (4 blisters and 2 blisters pack) of Sanyo 2500mAh batteries for my PhotoMalaysia members in Malaysia. I believe some of them have the faulty batteries, but they are now all over in Malaysia. So, what can Sanyo Singapore do? Can you help me to check with them? I bought the Sanyo 2500mAh from Singapore with the trust that those in Singapore should be the better original batch...

I got the same problem when my sanyo batteries exhibit low charge on the camera batt indicator, sent an email to eastgear and got this reply

"Hello

NiMH rechargeable batteries are typically rated at 1.2v whereas
alkaline and lithium are rated at 1.5v. Thus you have a total voltage of 7.2v
versus 9v when using alkaline or lithium. While rechargeable batteries
start at a lower voltage, they are able to maintain this voltage for
longer than alkalines which have a linear discharge curve.

The lower voltage also means the battery indicator will show the
batteries are at partial instead of full power. One way to test would be to
compare the number of shots you can take with alkaline versus NiMH
rechargeables. The NiMH should be able to take more despite being at partial
power.

Using AA batteries in the BG-E3 is usually meant only as an emergency
measure.

Regards
(name)"

After studying the data given these few days, I oredi know what are the suspected/ affected batches. 2100s and 2300s should be fine...keep using them and let them 'die' a natural death due to the number of expected charge cycles. Do monitor your 2500s ..if they do not give you a reasonable length of usage ..the discharge has surfaced then... I hope that clarifies.

Thks! will PM u my batch number tonight or tomorrow evening :)

One qn, does this behaviour start from day 1?

Update: hmm after reading the posts more carefully, looks like the behaviour can come in halfway.

Hi AhV

I just send you an email but got bounce back
Technical details of permanent failure:
PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 8): 554 5.7.1 Rejected 72.14.204.206 found in dnsbl.sorbs.net

Actually, the older green Sanyos were really good. I've read that the 1800mAh batts outperformed many 2000mAh batts.

My Batteries.

All,

I have 12x Sanyo 2500Mah. Initially I though the fast drainage of itself only happen to me. Seem it is the quality issue. My one is 05-03-AC batch. Will become flat after less than one week without usage.
Question now, Sanyo commit replacement? :)

Wonder

ok...everybody listen up..SANYO just contacted me again today.

They need more extremely 'BAD' 2500s batteries .... do a test on yours again..if yours "LAO SAI" at F1 speed and is already on my list, drop me an email to volunteer your samples. I will need to collect your batts from you. These batts will be sent to Japan for stringent testings.

The list is growing daily but I will close the request for info at month-end for final consolidation of my list. So, HURRY if you are still not on my list. I will send acknowledgement to those on my list at month-end.

Please bear with me as I will only provide update once I have updated additional members.

Cheers !

How do we know whether are we on the list or not? Maybe you can list down the name that ppl had msg u or maybe you can reply that person that email you.

Btw, did you receive my email?

Thanks alot.

AhV, possible to meet up with u and pass you my whole collection?
mine's championship material.

3sets of 2500 and 2sets of 2100 only. threw away many more before this latest purchase.

good move by Sanyo boys to stop the rot.
but i'll be battery-less for quite a while so meanwhile, i'll just buy other brands.

cheers! thanks for ur help!!

Hi guys, Joined this forums just for this issue cos I also happen to purchased 5 sets (of 4) AAs! that's 20 Batts affected :(

My batch aren't that badly affected yet cos I just bought them a few months back via lelong.com.my from some store called WinCom in Penang. But can feel that it's worse than even my 2100s... something is wrong!
