If it was 20 years ago, $1,000,000 can really make people think about hoe to live their life from then on. Now? I'd still carrying on working. As you noted. $1,000,000 isn't a lot of money in toady's sense. I would think that the $1,000,000 is an opportunity for me to make more $$$$$. Probably invest in commercial property, though that is hardly enough too.

Have you ever heard of LEVERAGE? It means make more with less.

So IF & only IF you hv a million bucks you leverage it to buy a few properties worth much more than a million cos todays market you need only 20% and rest could be deferred payment scheme or progressive payment until full TOP, which usually is 3-4 yrs down the road and by then the market wd hv picked up by 30-50%% hence sell after that to cash in on your profits:bsmilie: Hypothetically speaking you end up becoming multi millionaires then:lovegrin:

You could also end up a miserable bankrupt. It works both ways.

Yep. If it works out badly, I hope to be there to grab the fire sales. :bsmilie:

(I love the way leverage is explained in the now-classic video)

Yes, everything in life would go bothways, wouldn't they? Do you stop going out just b'cos you may get knock down by a drunk driver? Do you stop flying cos airplanes can crash? Do you stop taking the boat cos Titanic sank? NO, right? Just the same as property investment of any other investments for that matter. It's all about calculated risk and doing your homework and most importantly -TIMING! Probably that's why there are so few millionaires in the world...

so that's how many zeros you get in a trillion....

Because the rest of the millionaire-wannabes are bankrupts? :dunno:

I think wants and needs is a good question only we each can answer. There is the recent Economist's view that economic success is in conflict with one's pursuit for a leisurely and emotionally fulfilling life.

In this world, there is only so much resources - things don't grow on their own, other than trees (and yes, I forgot to thank the trees for the oxygen today) - so we're pretty much moving things around, from the poorer to the richer. There are also different risk levels for different people so yeah, you're right. Some of us may never be millionaires unless we strike lottery (personally, I think $2 is a good sum of money for one whole month of hope) but I don't equate that to how you compare this kind of risk with for e.g. taking a boat or driving car. The risk level is just not the same (unless it's a Toyota Prius)

Not too long ago, dreaming to have a $1,000,000 would be enough.

Recently, it seems like a million will not even get you a nice condo :dunno:

How's there? Millionaire

If you had a $1,000,000 cash, how do you plan to live your life?

I will use it to grow another million. With $2 million on hand will use $1 million to have complete collection of 'L' lens, get a house n a car, then the other $1million will cont to grow another Million ....etc...! :bsmilie:

Oi ! Wake Up and get back to work !!!

:bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie: dun angry ah ?

With a million ...

$100,000 - give my wife and her group of deaf members setup a deaf welfare society
$100,000 - spending for my photography gear
$100,000 - spending for my IT server/equipment
$100,000 - give my mom holiday and spending money
$100,000 - get a pet condo for my 2 darlings
$500,000 - save for when i need to spend another $100,000 for my next generation of photography gear ... hehehehe.

EDIT: Oh yeah, top of the line V8-powered wheelchair with 4WD and big fat tyres.

Now, if only I can pinch myself to wake up from this dream ...

With a $1000,000..... I would withdraw $2000 every month to add it to my current pay (no more OT for me).... and keep working (still have income and to occupy my time).

$1000,000 divided by $2000 = 500 months = 41+ years. Oh.... and will be going to some exotic place to Scuba Dive.

I'd give myself a slap and then tell myself to wake up my idea ..

Ill invest S$999990 of it and spend $10 on KFC

:embrass: .. you think I can find another few hundred thousand... those bloody Murcilargo and Pagani Zonda cost close to 1.5million reh......
