I think I am addicted to F1.2....

BLUR isn't everything to achieve GREAT pictures

ok now guess wat, I realised that the leica 50mm f/0.95 is a slow turtle!!

Because I just found that there is a Canon XI 50mm f/0.75 lens!!!

There is even a Carl Zeiss 50mm f/0.7 lens!!!!!!!

Go to here for more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lens_speed

You can also goto this place for a third party 50mm f/0.75 lens image samples: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=918237

Looks like even if I spend 25k to use the Leica 50mm f/0.95, my life would still be incomplete!!!

Now then I realise how slow my two f/1.2 lenses actually are.

Come on man, show me a 50mm f/0 !!!!!!

What would f/0 be like? :dunno:

TS did well and being honest by declaring that there were "no photoshop sharpening added.... all straight from cam". I bet a lot of forumners do lots to beautify their pics before posting in CS. 1.2L is a good lens indeed!!!

eh .... to me these pictures actually showed how badly they are... out of focus. :what:

Like TS said, she did not do any pp to the pics but then her pics are not badly out of focus. I supposed some r are just bent on pp prior.

This is an interesting article.

Personally I like fast lenses and have not experienced light fall-off on my 5D. But the 5D is rated one of the best FF to make full use of fast f1.2 lenses. What's your experience?

Personally I feel that light fall-off and corner sharpness is a super over-rated issue. This is because, whenever u look at a picture, ur eyes and brain will mostly be focusing on the centre of the image. Thus u will not even notice light fall-off or lack of sharpness in the corners of a picture. If the light fall-off is not so bad till the extent that u can see black colour rims around the edge, its perfectly fine.

when using the f1.2 lenses (both 50mm and 85mm) on 5d2, personally I didnt notice any light fall-off, or maybe the fall-off is too insignificant.

Dear TS, i believe this is a process many will face, no worries, you will get over it someday.

I owned the 85 f1.2L and 50 f1.2L once a year ago, and now I own the 85 f1.2L II and 50 f1.2L again, but strangely, this time round, i want to sell them.

I went on to nikon system for almost a year and tried switching back to canon system recently, couldn't get used to it again, and I could no longer notice a big difference between the results on the 85 f1.4D/50 f1.4G of nikon compared to the canon f1.2 counterparts. Sure, theres smoother bokeh and certainly better colours. But as said, not everyone wants bokeh and colours are highly personal.

If you shoot mainly portraiture, 85 f1.2L is to me the undoubtedly best glass of it's class to have under 3k. But if autofocus speed and consistency becomes your concern one day, definitely I would consider other alternatives.

One reason why I am still keeping my 85 1.8. The other reason is the weight.

only FOV is double, not the aperture. You will still get f2, but the DOF and FOV are double.

That's what I said. DOF and FOV will be different, more like on a 28-70f4 lens on FF.

Actually if you are prepared to sacrifice perspective, e.g. instead of shooting at 70mm equivalent, you move in closer at 35mm to reduce dof, you can still get f2, can't you?

No you can't. What do you think will be a 4/3 equivalent to a Canon 24f1.4 lens on FF? Definitely not 12f1.4.

Actually to replicate the 24f1.4 dof you would need a 6mm f1.4 which is hard to achieve. But when you have a 28-70 zoom, you have a range of focal lengths to play with (e.g. 35 for 70) and thus can get the same dof on a shorter focal length but with a change in perspective. I could be wrong.

muhahaha.....

I have made the decision, and I took the plunge again.... i went ahead and got myself the 24mm f1.4L instead !!!! ;p

The decision to get the 24mm was quite simple. I was roaming around in Hong Kong at night during the recent 2011 countdown, then I realised that most of the time, both the 85 f1.2 and 50 f1.2 are quite tight, and I cant really capture the "mood" of the whole scene. In addition, when shooting the pubs area, I realise that even at iso 3200 & to maintain at least a 1/60s shutter speed, my apeture MUST be arnd at least F/1.8. thus this easily rules out those 16-35 f2.8 lens, 14mm f2.8 & the 17-40 f4 is totally out. And besides, i am walking arnd taking shots, mostly for candids, and the surrounding is packed with ppl, so tripod again is also out of the question.

Then i tot to myself, and figured that even the 35mm on the 1.3x crop factor is still quite tight, and thus i got the 24mm instead! I have tried before the 35mm, and find that 35mm is not really very significantly wider than 50mm, so there isnt much difference in perspective.

24mm seemed to be the right walkabout focal length on 1.3x crop or full frame, as u can even use ur dslr to take self portraits of u and ur friend with ur hands stretched out to hold the camera and shoot urself.

The lens will arrive in 4 days time, looking forward to using it for night walkabout shots!

i asked my frend to get for me overseas... he already got it, but would only be back in spore this coming thursday..

btw, so far only the 100 macro lens i got it locally, all other lenses i got overseas. spore prices are ridiculous..

i wanted to get teh 24mm f1.4 in HK, but everywhere is no stock. I wanted to get MT-24ex there too but no stock. MT-14ex no stock. 70-200 f2.8 II also no stock. 300 f2.8 no stock. 800 f5.6 no stock. very sad rite? everything no stock....

my frend is getting for me from US instead. its SGD 700+ cheaper. no international warranty but who really cares man... the 700+ savings can easily repair most things should anything happen, touchwood..
