No wonder, please use a lens that has at least a decent image quality. The 75-300 is undoubtedly a abysmal lens. They sold it at Mustafa for 99 bucks not long ago.
Look at the thread title then you understand what TS is trying to say here

I somehow find that for people who only buy a body with 18-270mm VC lens for example, I find the price don't justify, must well just settle down on a prosumer.
The new Canon SX20 IS can shoot up to ISO800 already...
No doubt, D90 is a wonderful DSLR. Tried my friend's one and I like it, and I don't mind changing from my Canon to a Nikon with Tamron 17-50mm VC.![]()
S5 IS zoom speed is very fast with its USM. The lens barrel didn't extend very long, thus the fast zooming speed. There's still other factors like startup speed, shutter lag etc.. it may not affect the picture quality, but it can affect whether you got the shot.
Similarly, a DSLR offers higher continuous fps.
And, a PnS offering ISO800 doesn't mean the quality will be the same as ISO800 on a DSLR. Maybe the noise level of ISO100 on PnS is like that of ISO800 on DSLR.
hmm.. Tamron 17-50 VC also comes in canon mount too..
btw, talking about zoom lens.. A DSLR with 18-270mm lens mounted, can let you zoom from 18mm to 270 in a fraction, depending on how fast is your hand. With PnS, you'll just have to wait for the motor to work it's way to bring the view from wide to tele.. by then, the bird maybe fly away already.
Somehow this reminds me of an analogy of how my bicycle can go faster then a Ferrari in a traffic jam. We both get to our destination too. Hehehe.
:sweatsm:
And then it started to rain....
who's going to feel worse? the guy on the bike or the guy in the ferrari with 5 coats of wax. :bsmilie:

I do managed to shoot some birds with my S5 IS before it flew.
And you will be quite surprise the quality of SX20 IS at ISO 800:
As mention earlier, if you have lens like Sigma 18-200 non OS, hardly u can tkae night shots also, not forgetting the price of equipment.Try some night shots?
As for the zooming speed, if it can zoom very fast from 18mm to 270mm, probably it'll be a pain to set the precise FL, say, 135mm? chances are it will overshoot, then need to adjust back, or stop prematurely, then adjust forward..? Anyway, maybe I'm not in a position to comment on that coz I don't use PnS

I have my DSLR for nightshots.![]()
When Prosumer like G11, I think this Prosumer is really on par with some SONY and Olympus DSLRs in terms of noise performance.I'm referring to the noise performance for night shots.. not whether DSLR with cheap lens can take night shot as well as PnS.
When you comparing the ISO800, the difference may not be much for day shots. But for Night shots, the output from the DSLR should be much better than those of PnS.

Last time, small sensors never did this great.

lol i dont see the point of this discussion. Noise performance is attrocious compared to even my dslr which btw is a 500d.and the g11 is in the same price range as the 500d, so how would it even compare to the better DSLRs available? .....
take this example, a BMW 5 series and a HONDA civic type R or something.. 'eh! my kah can go from 0-100 in 6 secs! Beat your BM ah!'
so what?
even if IQ was better than a DSLR there are so many other factors involved which is what has been pointed out so many times in previous posts.
so TS if you still think that a compact is better than a DSLR just because of IQ. your discussion is moot. you are not a photographer but a hobbyist.
