Here's some pros about the A40:
1. Quite good pic quality for a sub $600 camera.
2. Long exposure time of 15 secs - lets you take night shots
3. Low ISO50 - reduced noise in pictures
4. Uses CF memory and AA batteries (cheap to run)
5. Able to add lens adapter, thus giving you more choice of add-ons. Many more expensive cameras don't even have this.
6. MPEG video WITH audio.
7. 3X optical and 2.5X digital zoom
Here are some cons:
1. Very plastic feel
2. A bit heavy and bulky
3. No shutter and aperture priority
Yes, it has manual mode but it is limited. You can set the exposure time from 1/1500 to 15 secs. But for aperture, you only have 2 choices, either minimum or maximum. The aperture value depends on the focal length (zoomed or not). If not zoomed, it's either F2.8 or F8.0. If zoomed to 3X, then it's F4.8 or F14. Nothing in between.
Also it does not have shutter nor aperture priority.
As for printing, not sure. Have not tried it myself.
Of course, the A40 is definitely not the best camera around, but it certainly is the best value-for-money. For $500+, no camera in the same price range can match it.
