Hong Kong Price List

Looking around in our B&S for a used 1DmkIII but nobody letting go. Think of going Hong Kong to purchase in May-June. Looking at prices in a few of the shops you guys recommended, its around HK$31,000 (which is S$5535 base on current SG ex rate). This is really tempting as S'pore selling at S$6500... $1k difference.

Hope by the time I go, prices will drop further ;).
Anyway, like to check with guys who buy from HK:

1) Anyone bought their DSLR from any of these shops before? Which is safer/can bargain?
2) Is it safe to change so much ... HK$31k and go there to buy?
3) If I use credit card will the price be different higher?
4) Confirm no tax for tourist right?

Thanks guys!

1. Wing Shing or Man Shing in Mongkok. Or Tin Cheung in TST.

2. What is the problem? You won't be pasting the money on your body right? I always change in Mustafa. Rate is good. Today's rate is S$1 : HK$5.659. Ask for big bills to reduce your wallet thickness.

3. No CC charges in Wing Shing and Man Shing. Tin Cheung yes.

4. To play safe, put camera in a camera bag and keep the boxes in check in luggage. Hang it round your neck if possible so that customs will not know whether u bought or brought.:bsmilie: Also there is no such thing as tourist tax.

One advice is to call them from Singapore before u go to confirm they have stock. Sometimes they may not stock up hi end ones like 1D.

Anyone knows if I buy a lense in Hongkong, is the warranty card only to be registered at the HK Canon website or can it also be registered at the Singapore website?

You can only registered at HK canon website.

any difference meh?should be hk site cause of the shops' receipt. they scared u forged the receipt too.:bsmilie:

You can only registered at HK canon website.

ic, tks! HK site requires a hongkong home address during registration which is the reason I am asking. So did you put a fake address?

I got a email equote from wingshing for 135mm f2L @ HK$6150 (~ SGD1090) and they say they will reserved for me for 1 week. Next day went and they say no more stock. In the end went to citxcall next door and purchase @ HK$6300 (~ SGD1,118). The staff there have much better attitude than wingshing especially on weekends.

No3 answer is funny :bsmilie: In fact, most probably I'm going to dress like a poor man walking on the street so nobody will notice!

Seems like TinCheungphoto is the more establish and trusted shop.

Wow! S$1118 price difference is S$28 between the two shops but still cheaper then S'pore. Average shop selling at S$1350. So you save S$230

The price difference for the 1DMkIII is even greater!
TinCheung: HK$30240 (S$5350)
S'pore shop average price: S$6300 :thumbsd:

Difference is $950!...Can buy another lens say a 17-40L liao!

That is why I always go to Man Shing, also belong to same boss. But the big difference is that you do not have to fight through crowds of PRCs shoppers to get some attention.

And their service is much better.

The only problem I have with Tin Cheung is that they charge % for CC payment.

Wing Shing and Man Shing are NOT the cheapest in town. Cannot bargain also. But no surcharges for CC payment.

the prices are really attractive.

why not we organise a trip to HK?

the amt u save will cover the expenses!

So where's the place tat offer the best price?

I might be getting a Sony or Panasonic Camera, can anyone advise if it is cheaper in Japan or HK? Pls advise.

Thanks.

Just returned from HK yesterday. My recommendation will be to go to Citicall instead of Wing Shing, Man Shing or Tin Cheung as Citicall's quotes are consistently lower (There are 8 Citicall shops just in Mongkok area). There are at least 3 Citicall shops further down from Wing Shing (MTR Mongkok Station Exit D3)

Example 1: Canon EF 70-200mm/f2.8 IS USM
Wing Shing/Man Shing/Tin Cheung all selling at $13,400 but Citicall is selling at $13,050.

Example 2: Canon Speedlite 580 EXII
Wing Shing/Man Shing/Tin Cheung all selling at 3,385 but Citicall is selling at $3,330.

Note: these prices quoted are all CASH only and with International Warranty

Ya agreed, citicall is cheaper.
Citicall (Maritime Square) offer me a very good price for a 70-200 F4 IS, cheaper as compare to other shops.

Can bargain the price with them if you are paying in cash.

I think they are selling it at below Canon HK's recommended price. The 70-200/f2.8 IS USM was at $13,050 (Cash) but the receipt's amount was printed at $13,390

u have alot to prepare your friend if she is not a photographer..

dun get conned, buy from reputable shops, check the equipment throughly for defects, packaging must be in tip top condition, must have warranty, try out the lens for AF to be working.

i was abt to give her the address of Wing Shing/Tin Cheung, the model number with the picture printed out, and the street price.

will tell her to check for international warranty card.

As for AF....i dont think she is able to.

Will the boxes be sealed?

I was at wingshing on Sat. A 40+ aged chubby guy that servered was very nice, explained to me the functions and gave me a few quotes of items I wanted to know. Finally got a SB-600 flash from him at HKD1780.
