Quanzhou is considered a medium size city in Fujian (behind Xiamen and Fuzhou). I am not sure if you can find reputable shops there or one with a competitive price.

Those who has been to HK recently, has anyone seem any pelang fisheye lens in HK?

for those going hkg to get lens..
rem that for some shop. paying by cash = a slight discount.
paying by card= 1.5% to 3% depending on the shop.
those using singapore CC, rem that the current currency rate that u change your money might not be the one that the bank uses.
for example, the currency rate i change over the weekend was about 5.79. but for my bank rate, they were using 5.45 as the rate when i swipe the card buying some toys for myself.
couple with the surcharge that the shop charges..
but still cheaper than what what most shop in singapore charges us.
Canon lens carry a 1 yr international warranty unless it a grey set in which u have to bring it to the shop. unless u stay in hkg. my advise is to get the set with international warranty
Canon camera body do not carry international warranty. they are local hkg warranty or china warranty. period depending on the promo or the camera body.
Mine was a 2 yr warranty.

All Canon DSLRs except the professional models are all on a two-year warranty (5D, 40D, 400D & 450D). They pay less compare to Singapore Canon users but enjoy one extra year of warranty. Not fair...

Think it might be the volume of users thing. More users, they can afford to sell cheaper. So get your friends to buy Canon DSLRs today! :bsmilie:

yay.. gg there on wed!

caught the BBB virus!

yup..
warranty depending on the camera body but got to rem that since it a local warranty. you need to send it over there to have it fix. unless u dont mind paying for the servicing fee here. Canon service centre is located TST. pretty easy to find
price wise.. also depending on model. sometime the saving can be 10 to 15% sometime only maybe 5%
it really depends on many factor. including exchange rates, prices, and demand etc etc.

1SGD = 5.79HKD? You sure? Where can I get such a rate? :D
Been checking the rates at The Arcade in Raffles Place and last time I checked (mid last week, IIRC) it was 5.715.

:Later,

suntec wor
they give me 5.79...
but cc still give me 5.45 rate. lousy bank rate
haha

so if DSLR body only got local warranty, must well get the grey set? would it be cheaper??

thats what i'm thinking too... duno whether safe anot.. or where to get?

personally, i prefer to buy sets with local warranty, at least i know that set is original and not from some shady sources. my feel =)

In the old days (1980s), local set usually means the plug is 240V (Hong Kong voltage), the menu is Chinese/English. And the grey set is 110V plug (USA voltage), the menu is only English (or Japanese). But nowadays all the electrical plugs are multi-voltage, and most menu include Chinese as well, so there isnt any much difference. But do watch out some shops will hide away some "included accessory" and want to sell u separately. I think Sony box got a photo on the box to show what accessory are inside the box, and Nikon box got a item list of what accessory are inside the box.

Guys

I would like to thank the persons who advised some shops in this forum.

Compared to what some of you said, I have not noticed any rude sales guys in Man Shing or Wing Shing.
The guys were quite friendly. However I agree with some of you who said that they do not seem to know much about what they sell.

I would like also to recommend Kinephoto in Stanley street. This is the only shop who took the initiative to call Gitzo distributor to know if there was stock for the model I was looking for. The guys were also friendly and knew much more about what they sell.
Besides, the prices he quoted were among the best, if not the lowest.

Last point, you may have troubles with the stocks these shops handle. Their turnover is quite high I guess and they are quite the kind of waiting for stock-out before arranging new supply. Make sure you are on the right timing.

Many MO for 580 EXII is going for $650 with international warranty. $679.52 is not consider cheap.

hi, im going to HK soon, any suggestion on where i should go if i want to buy flash and lens... somewhere reliable and cheap? no dirty tricks?

thanks.

anything thats much cheaper in HK for Canon user ?
I'll be going Hong Kong this Sunday for 2 days.
:)

Basically everything. But, you will need to do your homework before hand. Some will have a bigger savings than the others. Go to the bigger shops and avoid getting con. For lenses and flashes, make sure you have the International warranty card and the serial no. matches that of the product.
