From post#3 in page 1:
Tokina Hong Kong
I called the HK distributor and was told if the item is a local set, there should be 2 warranty cards inside the box. One issued by Tokina Japan and the other issued by HK local distributor (Laikok Photographic Products (HK) Ltd). Local warranty is 3 years and the International warranty is 2 years.

The warranty practice for Sony HK is still the same as I have stated in page 1. After the purchase, need to bring the local warranty card to Sony service centre to exchange a 1-year international warranty card. This applies to camera body and lenses but not flash.

If your friend had purchased a gray set, then there might not be any warranty card in the box.
Alright..with your words im much confident now. thanks alot. really.

In case you forget to exchange the international warranty card while you are in HK, you can always mail back the local warranty card to Sony HK service center in exchange for the international warranty card. Just a bit of pain and some risk in getting the original card lost in the mail. Before you mail out the card and receipt proof, you should at least make a copy of the original just in case.

CS Tan, I will be going to HK on 8 Aug... Will you be able to help me confirm on the warranty for Sigma lens? I tried contact Sigma Japan but no reply from them through email. Will be getting a 10-20mm lens when i am at HK...Cos i will wan to decide to get grey set or local set at HK depending on the warranty then Sigma offers.

Anyone jus purchase Sigma lens from HK the last 3 months?

It is still the same as what I have stated in page 1.

However, I think someone here did have problem claiming warranty with Sigma SG distributor on HK purchased lenses so perhaps you can give Sigma SG a call to clarify. Because at the end of the day, it is Sigma SG's decision whether they want to honor the International warranty or not.

Hey CS TAN, Thanks for the great guide! It was very comprehensive for me when I printed almost like 10 pages and brought it with me on my virgin trip to HK. Had a pretty tough time navigating Mongkok as the streets and shops are narrow and packed together very
much. Nevertheless, I manage to find Man Shing and Wing Shing. Both are very huge store on the street floor, making it easy to locate. However, they were not too friendly in their service. Maybe I can't speak canton.... I manage to get my item frm Tin Chueng after circling the streets for almost half and hr and only to realise the shop is in Sim Ciry (small mall). It's very pack inside with many small shops. Like a mini SLS. Many shops selling 2nd hand lens in there too.

Tin Chueng is much friendlier and helpful. fyi, the canon flash I got from them has a green International warranty card. They also provided the cheapest quote. The rest of the big players do not seems very interested or sincere. No time to visit Tim Sha Tsui's shop... Good experience all in all. Stuff there are really much cheaper... :)

Hi any one know where to get sx-70 polariod camera in hk? And 2nd hand m-mount or ltm lens..

I already saw mint and psphk.com.hk prices are a bit high compare to sg...

Perhaps you have met those grumpy old sales just like people did in AP Funan.:bsmilie: I would suggest people try to engage those younger sales in WIng Shing/Man Shing, they are usually quite attentive. Most of the customers in those shops are from mainland China so not able to speak Cantonese should not be a big problem. You can always talk to them in Mandarin if you like.

Bought Panasonic 20mm F1.7 m43 mount from Wing Shing Mong Kok. Tried Panasonic 20mm and Olympus 12mm on 4 August, but didn't buy. Salesman was not pushy and patiently let me explore the lenses. Returned on 6 August to buy lens. Price is HKD2950. Comes with international warranty.

Too bad the Panasonic Leica 25mm F1.4 seems to have sold out everywhere. m43 is selling hot in Hong Kong. Olympus EP-3 is selling fast too. Price is HKD7390.

Definitely will buy more camera gear from Hong Kong. Prices are generally cheaper than Singapore by 10% to 20%. Moreover, I am happy that Panasonic and Olympus provide international warranty. And I realize service level in Hong Kong now is much better than 3 years ago. And many of sales staff speak decent mandarin.

I'm at HK now.. Bought a canon 580 ex ii for HKD 3300. The warranty that comes with the flash states clearly a international that can service in Singapore. I double confirm with the shop. Bought at Suning located at mongkok area. Also purchase a sigma 10-20mm f3.5 at hkd 4780. Also mentioned that got international warranty but kind of dun believe it for sigma. But confirm for canon flash. He also mention only flash has international warranty but not cover for canon Lens and body. He even took the trouble to show me the warranty card for canon lens and flash.

Hi Bragbig

Is there any chance you can help to check whether there are any stock for tokina 11-14mm lens that comes with international warranty at HK?

Hi ruudboy,

there is stock for the lens... But whether or not there is international warranty i am not too sure... Cos i also doubted the warranty that the shop staff mentioned for sigma lens... Called up sigma singapre b4 my trip and was told no international warranty... better to call them to check...

Thanks bragbig, how is it and from which shop?

Hi CS, which Tin Cheong branch is the biggest and will carry the most goodies? Am looking for Canon, Zeiss & Billingham.

Thank you and I just want to say this thread is the one of the best and most helpful on clubsnap.

Their Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) main store used to be the largest with 2 floors. But they have moved to an upper floor store in TST early this year and I have not visited that store yet so am not sure how big/small the new store is.

For Canon, Zeiss and Billingham bags, their Mongkok Sim City branch should have stock available.

Now I know what to do when I'm in HK and the wifey goes shopping with her sisters....... S**t, I knew I shouldn't have skipped the AntiVirus upgrades!

Thank you CS for your reply.

Are prices pretty much fixed or do I need to bargain? If need to bargain, what is the margin to bargain for?

Again, thank you.

Tin Cheung tends to give quotes based on who you are so if you plan to pay them a visit, do your homework before hand. www.price.com.hk is a good place to find a benchmark. I don't normally bargain, just check price with several stores and usually buy from the lowest one.
