hmmm ... i still need to figure out how to put 35mm onto the holga u noe ...
still need to find what suitable sponge that can support the 35mm roll in the middle ...
and i dun understand what's up with the black tape that you guys sometimes mentioned ...
even that holga-mod website suggests the use of black tape ...
actually wat it the black tape for ??? to hold the holga together ???
Hmm, i modded my holga to fit a 35mm film so i should be able to offer you some help.
For my holga, perly gave me 2 rubber bands and a sponge which is quite tough (both needed to mod the holga to a 35mm), i suspect you can find both at a DIY shop. The rubber bands are there to be tied around the take-up spool (the one at the right side of the camera) so that the 35mm film can fit nicely onto the spool. Why? Because the 35mm film is thinner (or shorter) than the 120 film, so there is a high probability that the film, if not aligned properly, can be all over the take up spool once you've finished the roll. The sponge is to fit the film cassette nicely into the holga.
The tape is there for several reasons. If you remove the 6*45 (stock) insert, the sharp edges can scratch the film emulsion and thus ruin the film. You can either file down the edges or just use tape to prevent this, like what Stereobox did. Oh for 35mm, you have to tape down the red squares on the camera back to prevent light leaks. You don't have to do this for 120 films because there is a piece of paper (which is actually the film counter) that acts as a protector to prevent light leaks. The 35mm film doesn't have this feature, so the tape takes over this role. I use the tape to secure the camera back and the body too, I've heard bad things about the back popping out

Why black tape? Because it's opaque and doesn't allow light to go in lor. :kok:
You also have to use a tape to secure the film leader when you first thread it through the take-up spool to ensure tension in the film. You wouldn't want your film to be wavy eh?
I'm impressed by the tape I bought last night, from the ABC bargain shop at Peninsular. Only $1 for quick a thick roll, doesn't leave residue, and improves the grip. Gonna get a black one when I pop over again. :vhappy:
Okay, now my turn to ask a question: If I'm using 120 or 35mm and finished taking a roll, how do I rewind the film? Perly told me to either use a changing bag or go to a camera shop and get them to remove it for me. But a changing bag costs like $20, and it's too troublesome to go all the way down to a shop (there might be a Kodak moment around the corner and a roll is sitting inside the camera waiting to be removed). Any suggestions? :sweatsm:
PS: I just remembered, for a 120 film, to forward a frame you just turn the knob till the number on the camera back increases right? So for a 35mm film, your camera back should be taped down and there's no film counter so how do you know when to stop forwarding? Give the knobs 1 and 3/4 turns. Basically it's just 'aga-ration' but for the serious dooders (like myself), give the knob 42 clicks. When the film's finished, you should not be able to turn the knob. Hope that helps!
