I see, the heart shaped lights seem to be moving, but how do you make the pillar stationary? Fire a flash at the end of the panning??

the camera is held steady on the tripod, the pillars, well, they can't move 'cause they're pillars. and the only thing moving would be the light source.

since you have the shutter open, the little light that is reflected off the pillars is also captured on the film, hence you can see the pillars as well.
