In the case of Wai, aiya just let him cut off the soft corners or spend countless time on DIing the images.

no lar, i never need to crop off the corner cos mine already auto-cropped to 1.3x

even if the corners are soft, I can live with it and my clients also will not notice it because they look at the overall pictures, not just the corners

in fact, i never DI my image anymore with 1D MKII, no need to shoot in RAW and waste time converting it to jpeg, cos even jpeg is beautiful enough straight out of the camera.

BTW, average how much time do u need just to convert D2x NEF to jpeg using NC4? :D

Yah, kinda far fetch from the discussion. I always thought you start with composition within the frame rather than framing with the thought of cropping it off for better quality.

if you feel 10-20 is a substitute for Nikon 12-24DX, so be it ;p To me, it's a substitute for 10-22 in terms of focal length but not performance :sticktong
And 16-35 with 5D is? Even 17-40 and 5D have such results, I shudder at the thought of the 16-35 and 5D.

Then no digital FF + wide then. Coz composition might as well be easier for a 1.3x crop or 1.5x crop and knowing that the corners are not a worry.

Actually, the 1.3x is a very good compromise. The "auto-cropped" as you say give good quality moderately wide images with existing lenses and still is decently priced bodies.

Gosh, I hate to see a discussion degrading to a single sided shallow defence for the DX format.

yup, haven't heard film users complaining so much about soft corners.

Anyway, for most of us, it doesn't really matter what format (full frame, crop, etc) or lenses (DX, EF-S, digital zuiko, "normal", etc) were used. As long as the clients/audience and photographers are happy with the pictures, it's good enough. The equipment used are just that.... tools to be used.

This is probably because film is more forgiving then digital. Take for example the D2x. Its perhaps the most unforgiving camera in capturing the flaws of the optics. For example.. the 14mm f/2.8 is beautiful on film, but when it come to the D1x.. err.. I think Bjorn rates is at 3.5.. and I agree.. its really not designed for digital sensors.

One reason why DX was created. To address this problem..

Shallow for you maybe but it seems the readers have seen the arguments going both ways.

Basically, DX format are overall cheaper and give better quality for almost equivalent functionality.

"There is none so blind as they that will not see", doubly ironical for photographers.
