brudder brudder....why get a mkii when u know they r coming out with mkiii?by that time u will regret why dun wait for mkiii...imo is better to buy a 7D to ease your hunger now and sell away the 50D(save the money for mkiii) then ask your wife if u can top up to buy a mkiii,if she dun allow then wait for next year jan then buy mkiii la....like that u got a 7D(crop sensor)+mkiii(full frame).best of both world...

Yup. That's what I also think. But the other argument is that I can possibly get. Mkii + my existing 50d and that's also quite good. Actually maybe I should start another thread and ask people out there whether people have two bodies and if they do do they ever carry both out? Or just one depending on what they r shooting.

I think this thread has gone south. Since TS has the budget and made up his mind to pamper himself with a new gadget,
we should give constructive advise to aid on his decision. Whether his current setup is good enough for him, only himself
would be able to answer that. (when the BUY-BUY-BUY virus has bitten you, there is no cure but to buy...)

mengwei11, your style of photography would change and improve as you shoot more. It is not limited by your gear, but yourself.
I have another 450D which is also a cropped body. It served as a backup and is also used when I want to travel light.
Whether to carry two bodies or one, that's another topic altogether.. =)

At the end of the day, don't worry too much on the technical aspects of the camera. It is only a tool to capture beautiful
moments. (so what are you waiting for?! Buy lah... =P )

You might want to use the money to buy the 24-70 f2.8 and wait for the 5dmk3. Or just get the 5dm2.

If you're going FF, 24-70 is really sweet.

Getting a 7D don't seem to offer much imo.

Visualize it:

Any reason why?
I thought it can adopt all the kickass stuff of the 7d

If they do that... I am sure their 1D series would have lesser potential buyer

With what's happening in Japan, I guess 5dmkiii will definitely kena postponed. With so much tragedies in Japan, i will postpone product launches at least until everything is hunky-dory again if I am Canon.

Kindly explain how does equipment helps you to achieve better photos ?

Ok don't flame me if I get this wrong, but me thinks

Better equipment has
- better autofocus. Sorry, I've been learning to manual focus, but I think my eyes don't get it right most of the time
- better iso performance (is this the right word?) so better chance for low light shooting.
- better iq. But I guess this is not as tangible as my first two points.

I understand that composition makes good pictures, but all things held equal, surely better equipments makes better pics?

With respect to what you have said : The 50D cant do the above you mentioned ???

How often do you shoot in low light ? Better IQ > do you do large printings ?

Better Equipment does not necessarily makes better pictures especially if you do not know how to apply them. Stick to the current camera and just invest in good lenses

since TS already made up his mind liao, just let him buy and contribute to the economy la.

the money is in his hands, not ours' what.

i still maintain my stand - 5DC/5DMK2

since u have all the EF lens...think that u'd better go to 5D...

of course mkii and 50d is good enough, but the thing is,will u regret when mkiii is out?if u r fine with it then is good...if not u will curse and swear.cos that time mkii price will drop etc...so to me if u can afford, mkiii + 7d =) i'm using 7d now, waiting for mkiii.

to those that r saying better equipment dun help, pls tell me wat camera u r using.of course when u shoot more,u will get better and better...but when u can afford a better equipment, why not?toyota and bmw is both car,r u saying is the same?

I feel that equipment does play some role in helping you get better pictures. High ISO performance and high burst rate are two things that come to mind. They can mean getting a good shot, or a blurry and noisy one that's unusable. But other things like composition and choosing the correct DOF, shutter speed, etc. should not depend that much on equipment.

Had seen a photographer using a 1DsM3... and asking me how to activate the "pop-up flash" and "auto mode"... coz it's his first dslr (previously was using PnS). To me it's his $$$, how he want to spend it is solely up to him...

That Is the point...this 7D is my first Dslr as well as I dun a point to buy a cheaper option and upgrade at a later stage.
