I agree with you.. 7D for the events when a fast all cross type AF and high FPS is needed.. 5D MK II for low light, portraits or landscape. But having a CFO around is not easy.. Haha.. I share the situation with TS.. :-p

Despite its age, it is still a very hard act to follow in terms of its range of color rendition and the selection of lenses available.

Don't speak too soon. That's what people say about the original 5D, but then 5D2 succeeded beyond expectations. And since all the EOS bodies accept all EF lenses, how is the selection of lenses available relevant?

Yes the newer will be better, but at a much higher cost isn't it? That was my point.
As for the lens comment, it was meant to be read if comparing the 5Dii against other manufacturer's FF systems.

Nice!!!! But pls read one of my posts. I know some of u can shoot award winning shots with a 10d or even a point and shoot. I doubt I'm that calibre.

If I may offer a piece of advise, unless you are shooting for a living (full-time or freelance), the amount you spend on this hobby would not generate revenue.

Often people got "sucked" into the BBB virus thinking that having a better system would automatically produce better images... having a capable equipment does helps but often it's the human factor that matter the most... "The equipment is only as good as it's wielder"

Hence wouldn't it be better to use what you have currently owned and used and excel in it before investing in a new equipment? Many great photographers I knew did not produce their masterpiece from start, it's by shooting and learning did they achieve their skill now.

However like I say before, it's ultimately your $$$ and how you spend it is entirely up to you. :)

For the indoor sports shot, what flash did u hit it with?

Yes, flash is used to "freeze" the moment..

I see what you mean regarding the lenses. As for prices, while a new model will be priced higher than the current price of the existing model, it should not be any higher than the price of the existing model when it was new.

it boils down to your needs on what type of shooting you does...
i was caught in the same situation as u and i got the 7D finally due to its higher FPS because i will be using it for the coming F1 race and i have likes for higher FPS..
but then it does not mean that the 5D is not suitable for shotting fast subjects, just not as well as the 7D...
and certainly 5D has got its own merits too..
nobody can help you to make decision as the money belongs to u..

7D was my first cam, after only 5 months I sold it off and bought a 5mk2 as I mostly shoot portraits of my family, landscapes, and only occassional macro(which 7D does better). This was a good move. i dont really feel that 5Dmk2 focuses slower, maybe not from my use, so it's ok with me.

Though there are things that I really miss from the 7D;
- 19 AF points (all cross type), 5Dmk2 only has the center cross type
- spot metering on selected focus point, 5Dmk2 spot meters at the center only

7D as a 2nd body is ideal, but funds says otherwise as I dont get income from this hobby

Curious, I thought only the 1D(s) series can have spot metering on selected focus point?

yeah, my mistake, 7D only spot meters at the center too. I was under the impression that the spot metering point follows the cross type sensor lol if you hadn't pointed that out, I wouldn't have googled for it and learned, thanks

Haha.. no lah.. it's just a small oversight... Coz I used to own the 7D (for a short time) after I already got my FF for quite a while.

For sure.

Funnily for me, it's interesting how this has generated so much debate. I thought most threads will have a few posts. Ha ha

Nah, nobody will help me decide. Just cool to see all the very well meaning and very good arguments out there.
