HD PENTAX-DA 20-40mm F2.8-4 ED Limited DC WR

I read everyone's replies and I'm sorry, I just can't see the value. For useablility, the 18-135mm is far better. It's a third the price, has a far better focal range, is WR and HSM, and has decent IQ, and looks good. The only minus is the 18-135mm is one stop slower. It's about 150grams heavier, but that's because it zooms further. I think this 20-40mm lens is going to have to have exceptional picture quality to justify it's price.

Such short focal range hopefully great IQ. I for one would buy if so, LTD, WR = great combo.

Keep it short & sweet

Just wondering. Maybe Pentax will keep only the DA and Limited series. DA* and Limiteds should be in the same class of their own. Geesh. I wonder how a revised DA*16-50 F2.8 will look like in a Limited form.

What we can look forward is that Pentax may include HD + WR + DC motor in most of their future lenses line up. Zoom

lenses with SDM will soon obsolete. Hopefully, no more fear of SDM failure. Hope that there are plans for zoom lenses with

large constant aperture. Third party lens manufacturer such as Sigma can make high quality zoom 18-35mm f1.8. The

downside is that it's heavy & large. Though Pentax seems to have the upper hands when it comes to build, ergonomic & IQ,

what lacking is the large aperture in its DA limited.

For me F2.8 seems to be good enough for me. As long the camera can be noise free at higher iso, say 3200, its good enough. We can't defy physics. As the F number gets smaller, the lens size will grow substantially. Not slightly.

Bro, you've just state the value:

- 150grams lighter
- 1 stop faster
- smaller

Hi all, any news about availability and price? I would like to log in pre order. :)

It's about S$1.3K in jpn amazon, excluding shipments, GST etc. Pre-order would take more than a month. I believe it will take longer to reach

our local camera stores. I suggest you wait a little longer as the price may come down a bit & can compare price as well.

Ok, I guess it is 2014 for Singapore. :) Thanks.

Actually, i'd rather wait for the Sigma 18-35mm 1.8.... hopefully it will really come out on K mount.

The Sigma 18-35/1.8 is a fantastic lens, but it's a monster too. Don't think many people would carry that one around.

On the other hand, the DA20-40 is small and light, WR too. Hopefully the IQ will be as good as those DA pancake lenses, that'd be a great walkabout lens.

After the initial criticism and outcry about the lack of zoom range/aperture/price/filter size, etc, I think this is going to be a popular lens, provided the IQ is of 'Limited' standard.
Afterall, the 31mm is kind of expensive but that has not stopped so many bros here from buying one, mainly because of the built and image quality.

That's true.... Come to think of it, it actually is a superb traveling lens..

DA15, DA20-40, and any fast fifty..

Or IF I were to get it, DA20-40 and Sigma 30/1.4, maybe a fast fifty..

But of coz, it must be damn sharp from wide open, especially so at higher ISO..

Big lenses looks good when shooting for paid jobs or assignment. Since most people generally think shooting with a bigger euipments make you look like professional or serious. Practically they are heavy & bad in ergonomic. Pentax though small but IQ, build quality are superb and very good ergonomic in its design

DA HD 10-20; 20-40; 50-135

DA HD 10-20; 20-40; 50-135
If you intend to bring the 50-135 then properly it destroys the whole purpose of the 15 and 20-40! ;) With that range, I properly bring either the 77 or the DFA100WR unless you have a paid job or assignment as Flame Angel mentioned! :)

Make all the DA* become Limited versions. That will really make a lot of happy campers.
