Hands-on with Pentax K-5 :)

BTW, heard that the K5 is SOLD OUT.

Yes, new stock maybe around Nov.

Actually, we are really lucky bunch many countries still waiting to get their hands on the new K-5 :)

Yea, don't know how MJ does its magic, but I am not complaining! ;) Many countries are still waiting for stocks.
Ordered mine but its out of stock at the moment.

hehe, luckily i am still not yet poison!

Nice pictures, what camera is used to take this pictures K-r or K-x :) ??

Somehow my attention is more drawn towards the 100mm macro WR than the K-5. Maybe it's 'cos it just looks so unique!

Another ISO12800 practical trial.
Cats around by neighborhood at 9pm.

F100/2.8 macro f3.5 ISO12800 1/160
slight NR reduction (Topaz Denoise)

I think ISO12800 is highly usable.

This one at at ISO6400

Could only dream of such shots or use wider apertures before.

Time to move on to ISO25600 and see what can be done. :)

Edit :Boy! Picasaweb really does know how to add in jpeg artifacts. I think I need to take the trouble to use flickr more

Picasaweb's jpg compression quite terrible in general, it's the main reason I stopped using it. Free thing no good, good thing no free... :bsmilie:

Its just the easy upload from my Picasa that is making me use it :(
The rest of the sites, I'd need an uploader of its web based.
Never really noticed until doing all this high ISO stuff, where I compare the noise reduced photos on my PC with the one on Picasaweb.

Man! Flickr is expensive in the long run

have anyone did a shootout with a FF camera like D700?

I am really wondering if K-5 has reach the D700 standard in high ISO.

IMHO, it does not really matter other than for chest thumping and TCSS sessions :D
Leave this type of work to review sites.

What matters more is what the photos say right now.
ISO6400 is certainly highly usable and already allowing the potential for high quality shots in ambient lighting.

ISO12800 still good. Certainly usable. Might be more for documentaries like (the private life of neighborhood cats) :D

ISO above that seems to be highly recoverable based on samples from other forums.
IMO, it already gives the low light performance to do many things in low ambient light.

heck i dun even recall any situation when i need 6400 least 12800 up. So far just 1600 is already the max i use and it is already pretty useful. Now 6400 being so clean is just godlike for me. Dun even think i need 6400 unless in close to near dark situations and if so i wonder why i am there taking photos anyway.

Thought the same way until I saw some sports photos on a D3s.
While we ordinary mortals were struggling with the likes of f4.5 ISO1600 1/180, the D3s was going easy at about ISO5000 1/500 f5.6. A fantastic synergy of good DOF, action stopping shutter speeds and low sensor noise.

But generally, you are right. The good photo opportunities are usually below ISO1600. The new ISO capabilities just gives us more room to play :)
