Many thanks, Kelvin. I understand now.

I wonder how will the shop react if I bring my notebook along and says I want to test the cam for dead pixels?
If the shop provides good service, they shouldn't have too strong a reaction :)

If they don't allow u to test, then don't buy from them lor ... There are many other shops to choose from ;)

Hi to all

Finally got the F11 from Parisilk. $590 with GST, 512M xD fuji card, pouch - but tripods "out of stock".

Am looking to purchase film LCD protector from PurpleMoo - seems will help you see the LCD even in bright sunlight (why no viewfinder...) and spare set of NP-120. Seems the Maxell 3781 is compatible. Please see dpreview for all these considerations.

A quick comment about testing for dead pixels at a shop. I had brought my notebook along, but realised how troublesome it is.

Open up the box, remove the plastic from the battery AND xD card AND put on the strap - (you don't want to drop it right?) AND the USB connector AND install the software to read the card-in-camera (unless you brought a card reader).

Easily 30 minutes - if you do it yourself. Not fair to the sales staff to have all this on hand for ALL the cameras in the shop AND take up the counter space. What if you scratched the camera in the midst of all this and want another set?

Then pack up everything and make sure you didn't drop anything. Gasp!!!

I too don't want a dud, but there's the warranty card and the shop's assurance of good service.

Don't have to install any software. Just connect via USB will do.

u'll be testing it anyway - so the only extra step is to connect the usb cable.

Well, look like KMlee has done that with Parisilk. If you buy from there just said you follow kmlee example lor! ;)

If you buy from TK Photo, look for Richard and tell him you want to test the dead pixel. Ask him to take the black screen shot for you and pass you the xd card (so you don't touch the cam yet). Of course bring your own reader so that you don't have to figure out the new connection with the F11. Richard will install the battery and XD card for you anyway, customer service. So at this point, you have not accepted the Cam yet but checking only. Once you find no dead pixel in your notebook then you can start playing with the Cam and give Richard your nets card. :)

If you goto John3:16, don't think you need to bring notebook. Just ask Leslie or Samuel to tak the black screen shot for you and check it on their PC which has a 17" LCD Monitor. Or you can check on their PC yourself. Better service, no need to bring your lap top so pay a bit more lah! :)

Please remember to go at off-peak timing. I think is a bit difficult for the shop if you need space for your laptop and their shop are crowded. Pls hor!, don't test finish no dead pixel and tell them you don't want to buy!!! They will kill me!

talking about warranty. does warranty cover dead/hot pixels? I mean, you bring home, do a thorough check and then find there is one dead/hot pixel, does the warranty cover that?

Yes, the warranty should cover that. The reason why we check before we buy is to avoid the hassle of going down Fuji, waiting for the technician to find out exactly what's wrong etc. etc.

It says that it is USB2.0, but what matters is it is High Speed, in which it doesn't state clearly. So you should try to look out for its technical specifications before getting the Reader.

Me also just got my F11...

Realise my multicard reader has no xD-card slot...

Any cheap and good card readers to recommend guys.

like that not bad leh. computer lcd monitor, i think you need 5 or 7 dead pixels then can change.

read that one rant with the F11 is the need for an adaptor to connect to pc. that means, unlike most cam, where one cable connects the cam to the pc for downloading pics, this f11 requires the cam to connect to an adaptor and then from the adaptor it connects to pc, is that right?

U are right :) If u can't accept that, then no need to consider F11 already ...

I guess the reason why Fuji did this is to transfer the A/V out, USB port & DC in, off camera. Now, instead of 3 ports, u only have one port on the camera. The down-side is that u have an extra adapter :bsmilie:

I found this a bit irritating, but I didn't think it was a big deal :)

Or you can take out the XD card and use a multi card reader or the Oly one to copy your pic to PC. I probably do this since my PC's Win98 can't work with the cam direct connection method, it hit error.

Hi to all

About Parisilk, sorry that I wasn't clear. I didn't ask them to test the F11 as the thought of setting it up - when the clock was ticking - was just too much (see earlier post). They don't specialise in cameras, but they are quite professional (Holland V branch), will honour the dead pixel problem. Kudos to the shops that will do the testing for you - but as Kevin says, get ready to pay!

As for card readers, I've found that having one with a built in USB "tail" is really useful, as you don't have to carry a cable around, and it becomes a "palm drive". But these cost >$22 and if the cable is short, you may need to mod the chassis a bit. But you get a long USB cable anyway.

If you don't want the hassle of in-camera charging, buy an NP-120 charger - http://www.swisscophoto.com.sg/camelion.htm ~$40

There could be others.

Cheers

Cheapest i bought 10 days ago is at www.parisilk.com

They have 3 outlet in SG.

$590 = F11 + 512mb + orginal pouch + GST included

Previously wanted to get from Bally Photo at $615 for same deal but always no stock so gave up and my friend recommend this shop.

Best price i find. They don't have 1GB bundle when i buy. Don't know have or not now.

PS : I not related to the shop just sharing info.

HI GUYS,

So far parisilk outlet is the cheapest for F11+512MB+Pouch($590) around the town? How about Alan Photo?
May I know where is the cheapest price for F11 + 1GB + Pouch? Thanks... I'm thinking to buy F11 soon..;)

Well, I was also seriously considering the FX9 for its OIS function. But the F11 responds well enough that camera shake is hardly a problem.

I have tested the F11 for two nights at the esplanade and Singapore river area taking photos with friends at night and I must say that the results are quite nice. Even my friends noted the clarity of the night photos taken. So far the camera has proven to be moderately idiot proof for photos taken at night -> If the Natural Light mode shot doesnt turn out well, just switch over to Auto mode or vice versa ;)
