have any idea how much will it retail for?

Based on John 316, it will be around 9xx, MS Color refuse to give the details on price as they didn't have the stock yet (2 weeks ago).

I will guess it should be about the old price of GRD... hopefully bundle with all the accessories. hmmm...

still very confused with model to get.
its either GRD 2 or GX 100. how? can someone suggest?

I have GX100 and quite like it, i don't have GRD/GRD2 but will like to have one as well.

For me, I think the main different between the 2 camera are:
1. GX100 come with a 24mm - 72mm zoom lens, while GRD2 is fixed 28mm.
2. GRD2 has a better build.
3. GRD2 is a bit sharper than GX100.
4. GRD2 use OVF, GX100 use EVF. I think the OVF come with GRD2 is smaller than the EVF.
5. In GRD2, you can turn off NR, in GX100, there aren't an option.

So i depends on what really matter the most to you. If you need a zoom, then go for GX100. Otherwise, go for GRD2.

May be you can list down your wish list and prioritized them, and make your choice from there.

But huh... the other better way is to go to the shop try out both and let your feelings tell you which one you like the most. :sweatsm:Take the one you like to have it in your hand.

Sometimes we can make a very practical choice but if afterward you don't like it, you will not use it that much also.

Hope that helps.

If confused, the choice is clear. Don't buy either.
thanks for helping me so much by asking me not to buy any of these model.
then i think you are always clear of what you want to buy and not confused at anytime huh? i suppose so right?

of course it helped! i really appreciate your review on the cameras. thanks

i was a GX100 user and lots of my friends were using GRD so had a few chances to play around with GRD. The GX100 is no doubt a better cam than the GRD esp for me as im an ergonomics person. The twin dials of the GX100 are better esp the thumbdial where u press/click down once and it opens a quick menu where u can store up to (any) 4 settings to adjust. and speed is something really really nice. all i needed to do to change settings is click the thumbdial and the quick menu appears so u can adjust 4 settings e.g WB,AF,ImageQuality,ColorProfile,ISO,ExposureMetering, etc. whereas on grd u have to click menu, then scroll through the menus to adjust the settings individually. on top of the GX100 twin dials it also has the Custom Fn Button where u can set any (1) setting to it. it means 4+1 settings on the fly! imagine how long it'd take for a GRD user to change 5 settings :sticktong
the GX100 also has 2 custom settings that can be stored in My1 and My2 which i save B&W+ISO800 on 1, and more saturated colors+ISO100 on 2. so changing through settings and styles is just a dial away :)

as for zoom i rarely use it. most of the times i just use the GX100 @24mm and zoom only when im bored and wanna see how far it zooms haha.

With that said i think GX100 is really an amazing cam. The GRD2 from what i see is not a big improvement from GRD1, and GRD2 is targetted mostly at consumers who have not yet own the GRD1. and GRD2 uses the same sensor as GX100 so image quality should be the same unless software sharpening etc. so my advice would be which cam fits your budget better?

Problem with the GX100, is that the noise level at iso 200 and above is really disappointing. Furthermore, hotspot issue is really annoying while doing long exposure. Not sure this is the case in the newly launched GD2. Otherwise, will plan to get the GD2.

checked out the GD2 at CP. very promising. I wish they allow quick change of aperture and shutter speed w/o viewfinder, but apart from that it seems to perform even in lowlight.

that's weird. are u sure u tried out the GRD properly? it's not only Gx100 and GRD 1 and 2, Gx and gx8, but even the R series have this thing called the "adj" button. Adj can customise up to 4 settings on all the ricoh cams i listed. of cos the mysettings and func button on the gx100 will be an advantage over GRD.

Personally, the thumb wheel is faster to operate than the GX100's thumb lever, esp in manual function. In auto and aperture prioty modes, the zoom button on the GRD acts as an instant ev compensation feature which will be faster than pressing the adj and adjusting values on the GX100.

Egronomics wise is a personal preference. I hav a friend who didn't like the gx at all, jus based on the materials used, as compared to GRD. Personally, both are great to hold and operate.

Finally, after months of comparing camera to camera and reading from forum to forum. I pick this baby at Cathay Photo yesterday. The moment I hold it, I know this is the camera. Nice grip and the switches are well placed. And best of all, the overall retro look and feel. Time to go and try a few shoots this holidays! :)
