sorry if this sound stupid, but may i know what's so special about this GR camera that warrants the higher price? I meant, given that a similar canon / nikon / olympus would cost much less, what's the plus for getting this Rocoh? Is it simply becos of brand [as in LEICA p&s verse lumix p&s; only brand difference]? thanks in advance.

exactly because there is no similar, look at the specs again.

for me, one reason is becos it has NO ZOOM.

the GR lens has a unique look to it's pictures, especially the colors. also this is the best compact cam in terms of handling. hold a GR and ure start to feel all other compacts feel cheap. also i dun tink ure find a compact capable of shooting 3min shutter speed besides the GRD and GX100

thanks for enlightening me. reason why i'm asking this "stupid" question, is i'm looking for a good P&S to replace my panasonic lumix fx-07. i was faced with the same conclusion earlier over a Leica and a pansonic FX-01. So I though the Ricoh is another of those"banded" cam. I need a P&S, one that can handle low lighting and good colors. but when i looked at the specs, it just don't seem impressive, thus i wanna hear what others [who love ricoh] has to say about their "likes" ... i guess the no zoom is abit of a "minus" rather than a "plus".

No zoom --> prime --> High IQ and fast

It wasn't meant as a joke. Based on your logic, the digicams with 18X zoom lenses have the best lenses? :bsmilie:

Try reading about the difference between prime (fixed focal length) lenses vs zoom lenses and you will know why how no zoom or less zoom is better. :)

if u really miss the zoom..then GR will nt be a gd choice. GX100 will be better than since it has 1 24-72m range. otherwise go for the super zoom compacts like ricoh R3-7 , or lumix FZ series. that said, i felt none of them hav the same feel as the ricoh GR. Doing manual settings on the GR is very fast. even if u have a super zoom compact....at the tele range, the f-stop is nt good, nt like those 2k plus slr lenses with f2.8 constant.

tink decide what ure needs are and get a cam that suit ure shooting style

It seems that November is a popular time to release new stuff in Japan.

28mm fixed lens with f2.4 is a plus not a minus. Infact, I wish it was a 21mm. If you're looking for point & shoot with zoom then you don't need this. In fact, I feel a point and shoot camera need not have a zoom lens, seldom use. A good wide angle lens would be good enuff. My guess this type of camera is for travelling and shooting landscapes and interiors. Even with a wide angle lens, you can take good portraits pictures. Again, it depends on how, why, where and what you are shooting at with that camera you intend to buy. :)

plus a fixed lens (esp wide angle lens) gives you the challenge (or opportunity) to get close to your subjects.

By the way, anyone knows when will it be launching in Singapore? How much? Anyone pre-order? I haven't really decide which to get yet between Leica D-LUX 3 and Ricoh GR II. I have a Canon A80. Looking to get a new one. Any suggestion?

I have a Leica D-LUX3 and is looking forward to get a GR II.

I love the 16:9 on leica, the image are sharp and saturated.
But it's a bit hard to me (to use the joystick) to make adjustment, and i really hate the NR on the camera. On top of that, it's not really that "compact" if you intend to bring it with you everyday 24 hrs.

Hence, the GRD II will resolved all the "hate" list on leica, though i will miss the 16:9 format, and the zoom. Anyway, i will still keep the leica. :bsmilie: is a good camera after all.

wondering when it will be available in Singapore, and if there will any promotion or not... so far no news yet.... :(

Anyone got lobang? Was wondering if anyone here can gather group order so that we could get a better price. Anyone?

Lets see if we have the 3 years warranty thingy like the GX100. I love the GX100, if I can get truely sharper pics from this camera, I won't hesitate to get it.

Anyone know does this camera have a image stabiliser to counter hand shake or small vibration?

in time for the xmas prezzie rush mah.

sigh, wish they had a bigger sensor and less megapixels. well, nice to see something different from the usual compact cams.

they have tried designing it with bigger sensor, the camera turns out to be too huge for a street camera. from the interview with the designers on dcimpress japan , if my memory is correct.

will it be cheaper to get it from japan? anyone knows about it?
