Good lens for street candids - Olympus m43

No, to get shallow depth of field depends on longer focal length, larger aperture size, larger sensor size, closer to subject, longer subject to background distance.

Hi Wong, thanks for the explanation.

Off subject abit, if not wrong you are the one who tempted me to buy the samyang 7.5mm fisheye after browsing through your gallery. Very nice shots you got!

try f1.7 20mm pan cake lens.. cheap, compact, easy to carry, nice bokeh portraits, wider than 45mm, good to shoot building and lancscape, it's my always carry travel lens.. now ppl selling cheap on forum also.. To me, i prefer this to 45mm because sometimes u got to step far away to shoot person in whole body or in group with 45mm. with 20mm u can easily go a few step and shoot

Hi, thanks for the advice. I did went through review for the 20mm. Have yet got time to test whether I would prefer the 45mm or the 20mm. I think I will probably go for either one of these.

Do not confuse bokeh with shallow depth of field. Bokeh refers to the quality of the out of focus area in a shot, a factor which depends on the lens aperture blade design.

U may like to read up more about the subject here: What is Bokeh?

No. The quality of blur don't just depend on the lens aperture blade design, it depends on a number of factors, from the entire lens designs, elements groups, number of blades, shape of blades, coatings on the elements, etc, etc. The blade design did play a part especially in the roundness of the out of focus light spots.

Note that there are lenses that don't even have aperture blades, example: Mirror lens.

Actually... you could look at Pany 25mm f1.4 too. It is a fabulous lens. My recent trip to Australia, I used this lens 80 to 90% of the time.

Thanks, I will have a look at this too. I think I went through this 25mm as well, but it was too costly? Not sure.. but will go through it again.

Thanks to all contributing to my learning towards photography. Appreciated.

That time was 400. Now Artworkfoto offering 345 right? Should be a very good bargain! Buy buy buy!!

I got the fisheye from sgcamerastore 3 days ago for 330 with freebie (well, a lens cleaning pack). Haven't taken it out to shoot yet.

yar i think sg camerastore still cheaper leh. because they quote me 410 at artworkfoto

anyway you bought from shop? because i go to their online not 330 leh. interested to buy if 330

Wa...330 for fisheye is real value for money. Go buy! You will enjoy this lens. BTW I almost always fix my cam with Panny 25mm f1.4; I take along 45mm and the 14-42...So far meets my requirement for travels. For budget you may like to get the 20mm (also VFM).

Is the viewfinder and len hood good additions?

Seems like alot of toys to buy.. haha..

VFM=value for money. VF is good if you use alot of outdoors or for manual lens, the LCD/OLED is not so useful on bright day. lens hood is up to you. Current lenses has good resistance against flare, but if you need for other purpose (aesthetics, lens protection) then it's your call.

Icic.... thanks for the advice once again.

Yes, from the physical shop. Better give them a call before going down, just in case.

I guess I will probably decide for the 45mm f1.8. Focus length is quite ok for me, but have yet to really be on 45mm throughout a day. Had always enjoy the privilege to zoom.

Any shops to recommend if I prefer for credit card installments? To be frank, I only made I purchase from sgcamerastore before.

I'd go w/ the 14/2.5 and 20/1.7. Can't beat their size and price/performance ratio.

street candid lens depends if you're ok to be close to your subject or like me I want to be far so I've been using longer primes mostly MF like Canon FL 85mm f1.8, Leica 135mm f2.8 for closer ones or for my family portraits shorter is ok I use the PL 25mm f1.4. So depends on your shooting style TS I've seen a lot of folks did suggested some lenses up to you to choose depending on your style and preference :-)

Thanks fengwei and albertri, for the recommendations and advices. I'm choosing 45mm strongly due to the focus length. I can't confirm if it will really suits me until I get my hands on it. Hopefully it turns out well for me.

On a tight tight tight budget, anyone can recommend shops who accepts credit card installments?
