Give me back the "Photos of the week/month"

Long long time ago.. There is a quiet village with lots of artists in it.

They use to held a monthly contest for the the drawing of the month and drawing of the year.

Then, came Dr Evil (no connection with Austin Power ) who tempted all the artists with the newest brush and canvas every once in a while.

Now, this little village no longer have a monthly or annually drawing appreciation/contest.

Most the artists started to belive a newest brush and tools will make him a better painter. Few people belive in practising and improving their skill.

In a small corner of the village. There is this little guy(puke!). Secretly wishing..

"When can we have the same drawing of the month/year" back?

hmm... well, if there is enough interest to drive the POTW or POTM, then we can reinstate.

i think last time the idea dun work well ( plain posting of pictures ) , but it pose a good potential .. here is some humble suggestions that i have ..

scenario 1
1) post a good photo
2) explain why it is good in less than 100 words
- how the photo convey the mood and feelings
3) settings used
4) location and sites


scenario 2
1) post a good pic
2) title of the pictures ( must be innovative ! )
3) if the photo gain popularity, photographer will score points
- more points mean have alot of good photos taken by him.
( may need to include score other than no of postings )

I am not trying to be difficult. Just checking the criteria of enuff interest...

It should bring back some of the attention to pics instead of equipment.

Not too sure about the point system though.

Maybe instead of having only one pic of the week/month, we can have one pic of the week/month for every sub-forum? This gives more room for different types of photographers.:light:

I agree on this. It would be easier and in some way fairer to compare pics that belong to the same category to determine the photo of the week.

vBulletin (The software that is used for this forum) has rating features... each person can rate 1-5 and system will calculate best score..

We can enable that feature just for POTW/POTM and let users vote.. The issue is of course what stops some from registering multiple times to vote...

And please let the votes be anonymous. Don't want it to become another photosigs where ratings are given, quid pro quo... ;p

Some suggestions:

1) To have POTW instead of just POTM as interest might die easily if the wait is too long to see the winning pic.
2) A panel of judges for the POTW instead of everyone gets to vote. In this way, the judges can do a short writeup why the pic was seleted as the winning pic. Maybe voting can be open to the public for POTM where best pic across all different sub-forums will be picked.
3) A special mention award where one pic fr each sub-forum can be picked and thoroughly analysed by the judges.(and maybe open to public as well).

I think maybe a half monthly thing can be considered too...

Ending dates be 15th and last day of the month.

Perhaps. A theme can be given and let the member have 1-2 weeks to go get that pic.

If there is an even like the recent spice garden or zoo outing, entries could be based on that. It will be fairer if this place is open to others that are not free on that day. (there, event like cosplay, fashion show might have to be kept ot the minimum)

100? Don't think this is a realistic figure. Ask ourselves, how many members happen to chance upon this thread in this LOW TRAFFIC sub-forum?

How about creating a link from other sub-forums like Kopitiam where traffic is more GENEROUS back to this thread?
