Getting aquainted with MF cameras

Good day Guys

Phew ! A lil hectic with my scheds but I'm taking a breather now.

sf_kang: Ooh Hassys.. I'll drool at the sight of the turns and the curves, let alone seeing pictures taken with 'em. Don't mind if I be the first amongst the newbies to try it during the outing? :D

Puffish: November and December are exciting months to me especially when weather is concern. Primarily coz its cooler during these mths. Secondly, the possibility of a B&W mono aka retro feel is higher. The thought of a model in retro outfit, taken in B&W posing under the dramatic sky just excites me... ;) Hmmm... reminds me of some pro fashion shoot...

jamesong: I've heard of the 7II but isn't the 7II MF cams? Would you mind if I take a look at your 645 slides and the 7II slides through a side by side comparison?

Erm... whose organizing the outing ?

Regards

hi, max!

hmm... see lah. its near for us, not for a lot of people. besides, a place like kranji (a) too many shooters also cannot cos we'll get in each other's way, and (b) a little bit inaccessible if u dun have wheels. :embrass:

mebbe closer to the date, i'll open up a thread for suggestions. ;)

hey all.. i guess we shall all wait patienly till the time comes.

megabyte:
saw a couple of MF at Peninsula over the weekend..

2nd hand 645e with 80mm 2.8f + 150mm 3.5f @ $1080 (The econ version, with fixed back)
New RB67 with 90mm + 150mm $2750
645TL Super Value Kit with 80mm $2200
645afdII with 80mm $6112
o... ZD is coming year end....

All of above , Mamiya.

Hi Guys

Was jus wondering could i join in as well if it is fine with everyone..thinking of getting MF also..(6X6 or 6x7) so hope to learn and see the differences..
but haiz....i wil be back at end of oct...

Puffish, can you keep me in the loop? thanks a lot

Good day

Puffish: Are you getting your MF after the outing or before the outing? I was passing by a shop near clifford center when I chance upon a photographic shop. Man, I stood there for quite a while admiring the Contax N1 cam and a host of other fine 2nd hand DSLR equipment. ;)

Keep me posted if you're hosting any outing, k? Cheers !

Regards

megabyte:
COntax with Carl Ziess lens... whata combo!
too expensive for me... and that's why I ended up with F90x and D70..hahahahah

justmeandjo & megabyte:
me host the MF outing? LOL
1) megabyte, you were the thread starter
2) I havent even touch a MF camera to start off with,
let alone owning one. Loaded some films in the film backs though as an assistant..
3) No car, am Public Transport friendly.

Most likely in end Nov or Dec when I get the MF.
Maybe when ZD comes by then, other 645 will start to drop abit.
Or like some says, 645AF will go up due to the ZD back.

RB and RZ are too bulky for my purpose though 6x7 is defintaly great.

Hi,

I think the 1st "outing/coffee" will be for getting acquainted with MF cameras. You will get a chance to feel the MF cams.

2nd "outing" to shoot at Kranji as proposed by nightwolf75, maybe when you guys have gotten your MF cams? It is rather out of the way without transport.

Puffish, did you manage to handle/hold the cams in the shops to get a feel if you like them?

Can live without AF? Most MF cams are manual focusing. Some of my frens cannot do without AF.

hi, folks!

okie... erm... how did getting acquainted with MF cams turn into an outing thread?

come to think of it, how many of us here are interested in a gathering? i think dreamseeker's suggestion of a lim kopi session might be more feasible than a full-fledge shooting trip. last yr i organised a little model shooting session when 2 MF using frens returned from overseas. lets say its something i dun wish to do again...

as for kranji, i'm open to suggestions cos kranji IS really very out of the way and i was intending to go early in the morning. other places i had in mind was an evening shooting session at labradour (just as out of the way) or ard esplanade area (mebbe climbing up benjamin sheares bridge). i am intending to go during the 'deepa-raya' holiday. :p

Cos you got everybody excited when you asked if there are pp interested to go shoot at Kranji. :) :)

nightwolf75, I'm interested to go shoot at Kranji during the hols you mentioned. Let me know. I try to spare some time. Got some relatives visiting me during that period also.

HEllo all,

dreamseeker:
I'm all for the getting to know what is MF first before the shoot.
Cos this will let us MF 1st timer understand what may suit us.

Then after megabyte, myself and other 1st timers get the MF,
then we can get excited about shooting outing.

Was waiting for someone while I check out the MF from showcase.
So dont have a chance to feel it.

Carried a Kiev 88 (the one that look like hasselblad, donno which model though).
That's a 6x6, yes?
Relatively heavy. maybe due to the fish eye lens attached to it.
Saw RB67 at Cathay showcase, just the size of it is enuogh for me to imagine the handling.

O sure can live without AF, started with manual slr anyway :)
anyone remembered Cosina?
Still prefer good old using-the-eye-to-see-if-the-vertical-line-meet focusing system used
in most manual SLR.

Just thought that if got the extra $$ will invest in an AF.
Of can always have a calculated DOF so that even if the person
moves, I still can maintain the focus.

Thanks for posing the questions for me to think about.
Megabyte and myself will strongly agree that the 1st
gathering will be the best chance for us to have a feel
of MF and throw u all questions.

out.

may I know the name of that second hand shop ?

But you'd notice the Mamiya RB67 or RZ67 is an enormous camera that would be nearly impossible to shoot handheld.

FYI, wee khim shoot handhold with a RZ67 all the time. It how used to it.... sure can train arm of steel.

Megabyte,

The 7ii Mamiya is a MF 6x7 and RF camera.

Sorry for the late reply, at present I am in USA shooting half the country's Western side, covering all the Nationals Parks.I have my 6x7 Mamiya 7ii at home, will meet up next month 18th November onwards. At present I am shooting with the legendary Crown Graflexs x 2 ( attracts lots of curious Americans & tourists) and the Hasselblad Xpan I plus Ricoh GR1v. I have covered about 3,500 miles ( yes, miles !).

The huge images of 6x7 and above.

I'm sorry it didn't occur to me to look for the shop's name. But it's the only Camera shop on the overhead bridge connecting between Clifford Pier & Clifford Center. There's only 1. :D

Wish you luck, mate !

Wow... a truly eye-opening experience. I certainly look forward to seeing some of your 6x4.5 & 6x7 images (i.e. digital copy) of course. :bsmilie: . All the best to your 'tour', mate.

definitely 6 by 7

6 by 6 waste a lot of paper. =)

Mamiya RZ67PROIID

Enlarges perfectly onto 8 by 10 paper andd has the largest negative of them all.

Just a nitpick.

Actually no. 6x7 is not the largest of them all,

The medium format goes beyong 6x7 to 6x12 and 6x17, and maybe even beyond!

Yes, 6x7 is big, but 6x12 is bigger and 6x17 is longest. The longest is, I think 6x20.needs a center filter.

I brought along the backs of 6x7,6x12 and 6x17.....99.9% I am using 6x17 :D
