oh mine, looking at the Pen IQ, i feel like consolidating canon + lens and offer for sale and change to this sytem.

still pondering.....

is focusing a pain for all the brother who has tried it....
from what few posting...the ISO is very good at night shoot.....assuming no PS done....

Focusing speed is more similar to a PnS than a dSLR, but to me it's fine, provided you don't have unrealistic expectations (eg. taking action shots or fast moving objects). ;)

i love it... although it costs more the kit costs more than my dslr

I use it to photograph my kiddo and I don't find focusing slow at all. That's using the 17mm lens. I don't own the zoom lens so I can't comment on that.

thanks ndroo.

i read your blog, i am pretty impressed with your straight comment.
now for me, is the timing.
i need to sell out my canon system
like you said, with children around, difficult to lug around the slr stuff..

thanks.....

Pssst ... keep your Canon system. There are times u will need/want/miss it. Really. Hahaha.

I fully agree with the above comments.

Having used the E-P1, it does make me miss certain sweet features of my dSLR at times. And makes me appreciate it more.

Though the E-P1 still astounishes me at the end of the day with its IQ, and will continue to get more love time due to its compact factor.

But as others have suggested, perhaps get the E-P1 first and play with it.
If you find that it completely replaces your need for your dSLR, by all means sell the latter.
If it doesn't, keep it.

The last thing you want is to sell your precious gear then realise you can't do without them.

PS: High ISO IQ is pretty good, IMHO. Even without NR in PP I find ISO 1600 perfectly fine for most uses. The in-body IS also helps a great deal.

Few shots straight out of the cam. Taken using the pancake lens.

ISO1600 handheld. Pretty stable after beer eh?

Errrr ... no la. :bsmilie: Daddy struggling to find $ to drink his own drink ... cannot share with him yet.

What are u talking about? The shutter response is virtually instantaneous.

Instantaneous is like the D3/D3x 0.04 second lag time. What is the EP-1's timing? Curious....

now for a complete newbie to oly, would you recommend that i just purchase the Pen - body only or with kit lens.

in my usage with canon, their kits dun have good review. end up as paper weight inside my dry cab.

which make me ponders, should i get the Pen and match it with an adaptor with a decent 3rd party lens

and if 3rd party lens, budget size of 1K -1.5K for generald purpose, expert here, what sort of lens would you recommend?

thank you very much......

does D3/D3x AF system use Contrast Detect AF? If not then why compare apple with orange? :dunno:

I highly recommend the pancake kit (17mm prime). And if you want to, you can try other zooms in future. That would be a good starting point. Not to mention the E-P1 with the 17mm prime looks so sexy!

thank you. 17mm. F2.8 looks attractive!
i will keep this in mind.

for a super/ultra wide angle, what will be a good choice of brand and coverage based on the 2x crop factor..7mm?

If you are looking to retain Autofocus functionality, then what you need is :

MMF-1 : Adapter to use existing Four Third lenses on the E-P1.
(Four Thirds to micro Four Thirds adapter)

For the cheap, you can get the 9-18mm ultra wide zoom.

To go all the way, have the choice of 7-14mm Super High Grade lens.

Another alternative, is to buy the 7-14mm from Panasonic. That is 14mm - 28mm ultrawide in 135 format. Very fun focal length to use.

But the latter you have to buy online. Not sure if anyone have bought one in Singapore at all.

Hi Microcosm,

Votlendger lens can retain auto focus function? If not, that means manual focus shooting right?

That is right. You will be shooting using manual focus.

but as a side note, i just got the 15mm f4.5 voigtlander lens recently.. haha, the MF is damn fast! freaking 98% of everything is in focus... must see the f22 zone focusing markings, like all the way at the bottom of the lens.. haha
