Alright...

Seeing that G9 thread is a bit "dead"... (I love my G9 so I won't let it disappear!!...), here's some shots taken when I'm with my family at the Singapore Zoo...

Self-declared note: I am not a pro-shooter so please go easy on me...

Recently I've tried my hand on night shots when I'm at the Merlion statue, after the Esplanade... Most of my shots end up quite bad... I've tried using in Program mode, filter off, ISO 400 - 800, with my Speedlite 380Ex flash, the results are rather horrendous... I must have done wrong setting somewhere... Any pointers from night shot experts?

Cheers!

just curious, is the wb for your 1st two shots a bit off? your kids seem a bit "blue" to me.

a bit hard to tell from your settings? what were you shooting and why did it seem horrendous? maybe a photo would help us see what is going wrong?

Yo bro thingie.

Show my night shot?... :what: ... Unthinkable... I merely wanted to know what are the general settings those successful night shot experts use so I might duplicate the settings and try it out from that template and experiment...

Heeheehee... :embrass:

Thanks iboey. That helps alot! Cheers!

Without seeing your photos, I'm trying to speculate from your previous post that you're using flash for the shot... Is it to light up the person for a night portrait ? You should use manual mode, meter the background for the required exposure, and experiment with the flash output to get the fine balance between the protrait and the background exposure. Of course you will also need a tripod, or someway to rest your camera.

If it's not protrait, and purely scenic night shot, tripod is require instead of flash, and manual mode is the best for you to fine tune your result.

Thanks Chopper for the advice! Much appreciated. :)

A sturdy tripod is your best friend:thumbsup:

Yeah... I know I need a tripod for taking night shots... But when taking pics of my kids when they are always so active and can't keep still for the shot, it's almost impossible to use the tripod on them... Sigh...

Someone has ask me how the quality of my Canon Tele-converter TC-DC58C...

Well here's a shoot when I'm with my family at Upper Pierce Reservoir without the teleconverter, notice the white building in the background:
