Hi bro chopper, so you've got the wide-angle lens already? Wow, so it's a Canon? How much you've got it for? Cool...

Anyway, here's are some pics of my G9 fully suited-up...

Regards.
looks like a mini-DSLR to me. haha

its a pity the lens is still 35mm equivalent..otherwise i will definitely grab this.

cluby85 > i think amazon and B&H ships to singapore. their prices are about US$460 too. shipping is less than S$100, so i think it's still quite worth it.

I will post my setup later today... very similar actually, even with the handstrap. :)

Anyway, I find this website quite good for those who want to learn about using external TTL flash with G9.

Happy reading, happy shooting...

Here is 2 pict of G9 with Canon Wide angle lens, with flash, notice how large is the size of the lens, causing the camera to tilt backward when rest on flat surface. However, handholding feels close to DSLR:

Also, a test shot with the wide angle lens:

Hello all,

dear fellow bros, sis and sifus

i'm fairly new to Canon Powershot G9 ah.. so paiseh.
but i been looking around and i think the photos are great.

in case i missed out on where to buy it in the earlier posts..can some please tell me where to buy it and what are the freebies that i should expect. private messages are welcome..

many thanks

I thinking of buying a G9 for point and shoot.
But when I see so many are adding all the accessory.Wide anglws etc...
It looks like it better to get a cheap DSLR.
I am new and confused now.
I just need a simple but good camera.
Please advice, thank you.

Charles1976 & xtrader, I had quite a few P&S before, alongside with my DSLR, Powershot S1IS, IXUS850IS, Panasonic FX30, they are all very good companion for snapshot when I don't feel like bringing my DSLR. However, G9 I feel is the only one that's close enough to be DSLR replacement. Close enough, but not quite. If price is a constraint, there are other cheaper alternatives. But it'll still be cheaper then DSLR if you compare fairly:

12MP, 6x zoom, relatively fast f2.8-4.5, with IS; To match that on DSLR, you don't need an equal MP, but even if a 400D (currently cheapest Canon DSLR), plus a couple of lens to equal the range, it will set you off $1200 or more. The DSLR is definitely more versatile, and expandable, with better high ISO, faster shutter response, better bokeh (for the same f-stop), etc. But for that you pay more, get a bigger size camera etc.... For those who don't mind second hand, second hand G9 should still be cheaper then second hand DSLR + lens

For me, the add-on for G9 is more for fun, not a must. And comparitively, the price is lower (most of the time) then getting a new lens for DSLR.

So who should get a G9 ? If you want a good enough DSLR replacement when you don't want to bring a DSLR. Or if you're not ready to commit to spend on DSLR + future investments (look around the b&s forum, the potential investment is bottomless pit), and want a good alternatives, to learn about f-stop, shutter speed, lighting, and ok to part with $700+. Go ahead, you will enjoy it.

Hello all :)

My ol' powershot A510 just died on me.
actually my daughter just slammed it against the wall.long story.boohoo :(

i've been eyeing the G9 for quite sometime but at the same time, have been looking around for other alternatives.

While the price is not a hindrance, I really need to know whether I would even *need* the
G9 !!

You see, I'm just a simple stayhomemom who takes all these pictures of her kids for family outings and such, so I have no clue about the technical aspects of even photography in general...!:P

After reading thru ALL 24 pages, I am in dire need of Panadol! hahhaa..
but seriously, I am kinda having 2nd thots about the G9 cos :
1)I realise I dont really need all the complicated features etc.
2)I found out that the G7 works just as well ! yes?

Ok, all I need is the correct guidance as to which I should get..the G7 or G9.

Sorry for the long post..we housewives are like that.
Hee.

tks fellas :)

If you just want to shot in auto mode then you won't need the G7 or G9. The IXUS is good enough. If you like to shoot in aperture mode or play with the shutter speed and flash then get the G series or else you will be paying for all the extra functions that you will not use ;)

You might want to check out the A590 IS. Cheaper as it retails at $429 and it includes all the functions of the G9 except the hotshoe flash. Functional, cheap and in case it goes into one of any walls, it's 1/2 the money gone compared to a G9. Besides, it's lighter and easier to carry around too.

The 570IS is the 590IS's predecessor. You might want to take a read.

Hope this helps. :)

that's what I find myself starting to do lately before the ol camera died on me.
I was beginning to get bored with the manual functions and was fiddling with the manual settings and such :)

tks bro..this was helpful :)

this is also very helpful...I am going to read thru and find out more...

but alamak, that G series cameras are all beautiful pieces, eh?
They look sleek and classic, it's almost a good reason in itself to get one! hee..:P

Hi there momma!

Considering that you'll only need to take pics of normal family occasions, perhaps some videos to boot, and also not so complicated or looks complicated in features, then you should take a look at Canon latest's IXUS series, 970IS, or Sony's T300.

Both I'll say makes a good compact that'll take good shots on the go.

For Canon Ixus 970IS: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0803/08031302canonsd970IS.asp

For Sony T300: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonyt300/

Cheers and regards!

the g9 is a great point and shoot if you're coming down from a DSLR and shooting RAW - simplifies the workflow and gives you the potential to take the images a notch further if you know how.

I just went on a ten-day road trip in san francisco and had both my 40D and G9. The additional high-def video capabilities came in handy on the G9 too.

Someone has ask me how the quality of my Canon Tele-converter TC-DC58C...

Well here's a shoot when I'm with my family at Upper Pierce Reservoir with the teleconverter, notice the white building in the background:

And this is when I'm using the teleconverter:
