N.O.

I believe the Fz18 can be bought for less than $350 now firsthand. Just find the right shop, try online, like Adorama and stuff, and ship it in.

By the way, I bought my FZ18 brand new last june at 400SGD flat.
Wow FZ18 sounds really cheap :S

Some websites to buy online to recommend? Cos singapore retailers i think dun hold already cos I ask the major ones like Cathay, MS COLOR, ALAN and 3:16 all sells only FZ28 only...

Looks pretty professional to me. But I gotta be careful pointing that thing in public. Just might be arrested for suspected arms possession. Thanks Ombre for sharing information on your DIY lens hood. I'll head in the same direction, and do some DIY too.

Currently searching for a 400mm lens :(...

That's some huge lens. Is that termed as a super telephoto?

By the way Omre, with the tube at 15cm, will it increase vignetting? The minimum focal length of a tcon-17 without vignetting for a FZ30 for example is approximately 180mm; with an added tubular hood at 15cm, the minimum focal length without vignetting should increase. My apologies, just a question out of curiousity. Contrary to the question, I understand that the tele-end should be of upmost importance, not the minimum focal length mentioned.

Further, why 15cm?

Sorry for all these questions... heeheehee...

Thanks Omre!

Haha Thanks for the comments :D Yes my main intention that time was to make it look professional =X But I've outgrown it.

The tube at 15cm MAY have caused vignetting but I highly doubt it would. You're using an extremely small sensor at an extremely long focal range. If you realize, with the TCON at full zoom, your effective viewing angle is 5 to 7 degrees there about only. that 15cm tube won't affect anything, probably takes a 1 meter tube to bring in a vignette. It doesn't make sense to use the TC at less than full zoom.

Pointing that in public is no big deal really. Its not even half the size of a DSLR =X

Yes a 400mm is considered a super-telephoto. =)

To skyguy, 1000D?! sure not? =P I find it overpriced.

People buying TC, you might wanna check out TCW, they have a 2nd hand set of the TCON-17. i wanted to ask but then the uncles were all so unfriendly today.

wat and where is TCW???

anyway, yea, most probaly a dslr if i really sold it... currently my friend got a 450D deal for me... so have to wait for abit of reply... and also might be selling earlier too if everything is good... see how first bah

1000D is becoz its the lightest canon dslr, and the cheapest 1st hand price i see... come with 2 lens... so tempting... haha

I think why Ombre says its expensive is because there are cheaper discontinued versions of canon DSLRs like 350D etc. :)

your rite !! there's still ME !!

Fz18 all the way !

If I do get the FZ18. then got me also haha :embrass:

You're right. Fiddled with the camera today, and the effective viewing angle is narrow. Learn something new everyday. Cheers Omre.

By the way, I completed the Tcon project today. With your input, I went to the shops with 2 options of either DIY, or getting a collapsible rubber lens hood. Saw one collapsible at HKD$40. Close inspection revealed that the threaded end was indeed detachable, and Eureka! Pull it over the T-con and it fits like a glove! No modifications required.

Further, saw the price for a brandless 77mm 3-piece tubuler lens hood, similar in likeness to the one you had made. HKD$530!!!! For three pieces of Coke cans! I rather DIY if I ever needed a 15cm tube, and use that money and get another set of conversion lens.

Good luck with your 400mm...
