Full frame or not?

IMHO, I will choose FF over crop anytime. Used to have the 30D,40D but the noise level simply cannot be compared to the classic 5D. The bokeh also much nicer giving you the beautiful FF look. If you shoot for hobby and IQ is important to you, just get a classic 5D from the B&S. You wouldn't regret it.

the master has spoken!

I feel any digital sensor can utilize the optical quality of any L lens. Not only 5DmkII. Full potential lies in the hands of the photographer in the composition.

I agree that 5DmkII and 7D sensor color are much richer than 40D though....

Most important, have fun shooting.... as long as you are not getting into heavy debts.... ;)

composition aside, FF bodies do take advantage of the better resolving power of L lenses. i know as 3 of my colleagues have recently given up their crop bodies for a 5dm2. ;) the difference in IQ is significant.

heavy debts? nah, i don't believe in living on credit (except for the house and the car, of course!).

Life is short.

If u got the $$$ & think IQ is your first priority, then why not ?

My next purchase will definitely be a FF as I do not want to waste more $$$ upgrade & upgrade again.

they'll probably incorporate all the new features you see in 7D in the next incarnation of 5D. if you don't need them, the 5dm2 should be good for the next 4 years (at least that's what i'm telling myself haha).

To TS, if you u have the $, by all means switch. :bsmilie:

However, if you have a budget, then I will suggest to stick to crop for now since since you primarily shoot nature and landscapes and usually at iso 800 and below. There is not too much difference between crop and ff at iso 800 and below and you can always do some post processing later to remove more noise.

Also note that there are not much choices for wide angle and UWA in the shops for FF and most of them cost much more than the 500D body. FF equipments are generally heavier and bulkier so you might have to budget for new bag and tripod.

I have a feeling that Canon would want to put this FF 7D as 3D and the price point would be higher than 5D mkII price point, maybe around $5K.

Ok... I thought any sensor will take advantage of L lens and did not realized that FF have such a significant advantage.

When I played with the 7D and 5DmkII recently.... I felt the 7D was already so good........ and did not see much diff in them actually....

Doesn't have to be a L lens.

I can survive on a 24mm f2.8 (=around 35mm FF)...... ever went shooting just with that lens alone.... maybe when I started off photography.... this was the only lens on my dad's Konica's RF... and I am already used to this perspective.

that's what i think too now..

thanks all for your views and input ;)

Edit:
I think before i make any decision, i will be renting a 5Dm2 to test out first and see if i really do need it, or like some of you say, i'm just tempted to get the best and latest when something lesser will suffice.

u can find some of these services in here ;)

It's depend. If you are shooting landscape, go for FF. For nature, close-up with full- frame is still ok but if you need longer reach, like birds. Then go for 1.6x.
