Fujifilm X-Pro1

the 35 and 60 are plenty sharp enough for me even wide open and are a real joy to use (despite the 60's slow/hunting af in low light/indoor lighting).

anyway, 2 great/excellent lenses out of 3 at launch of a new system/mount is quite impressive. i remem other mirrorless systems took awhile to get good fast native af lenses.

The 18mm lens reminds me of the Panasonic 14mm f/2.5 lens except the latter is half the price.

well the others started with general zooms, long zooms, before venture into fast primes. AF has been generally snappy on their mirrorless body as well.

yeah, you're right... im not sure if its accurate to say that initially, other mirrorless intros were intended for general users (hence the compact, less bulky bodies) before addressing the needs/wants of enthusiasts or more advanced users. whereas the xpro1 (and x series in general?) has always targetted a niche market with their retro rangefinder like styling, focus on fast primes at launch, quirky af which takes a backseat to image quality, and general operation which tends to favour users/photographers who are more inclined to use manual exposure controls.

although i dont get the "pro" market fuji is referring to, since ive always thought pros usually favour canon/nikon pro gear (just generalising for simplicity)

Actually the naming (IMO) is easily deduceable:

X1
X10
X100

They came out with a superzoom model and confused over the naming while wanting to reserve the single number series for professional usage, hence

X1
X-S1
X10
X100

And when the camera is ready, they're scared of LEICA suing them with using X1 (wahahahah), hence

X-Pro1
X-S1
X10
X100

Makes sense? I think it does since they have a route map which tries to target premium and LEICAish feel

Wow I'm already seeing a set at BnS.

WOW. Impulse buying?

Again same issue. No patience to learn the intricacies. Assuming all cameras are built the same. Is a pity...as I have said about those who sold the x100...especially after firmware 1.2 is out. Really a joy to use now.

The EVF is so bloody slow that it is nearly impossible to shoot at the "right moment".

Solution: Half press get the EVF activated and wait for the right moment. Just a slight change of method over DSLR.

I for one started to see people using the camera for instructional purposes. Look hard enough, some Pros will use it as main gun instead of the normal DSLRs just because of IQ. It can be done. I have done it with wedding with the x100 so it is a matter of time when companies that sit on their laurels will be punished for lack of IQ for their APS-C offerings.

Not if the image in the EVF is lagging by half a second to a second when I already half pressed the button already.

Weren't you dissing EVFs not long ago? This EVF is by far the worst I have ever used, compared to Panasonic, Olympus, Ricoh and Sony EVFs.

I was and still am dissing EVF. I am suggesting that in the event you can't have the best, then the half press and wait for the moment is the best method. I can shoot ballerina at the height of her jump using this method and with EVF. Can be done.

There is one thing I want to know: do you use the soft release button?

How does the EVF on the xpro1 compare to the x100 ? Is the xpro1 EVF even slower than the x100 ? Can owners of both xpro1 and x100 please share comments ? Thanks.

They are very similar. Refresh rate is acceptable.

Just that the EVF will freeze when focusing.

Hmm....EVF Freeze when focusing ? I have the x100, did notice this when using. Are you saying this freezing happens only with the xpro1 ? Apologies for the step up in clarification.
