Fujifilm X-E2

After all, the EVF or live view takes up a lot of power. If we would to turn on live view for the D800, the battery will be gone in half a day's shooting.

I used up 2 batteries on my D800 while shooting in 15 degrees C conditions using live view in japan recently.

So I say, it is almost equivalent.

Extra batteries always help.

I just drop Nikon and joined Mirrorless system. Din expect it to be so much lower than Nikon's. :) Just not used to it, bro.

Just to share with you guys my battery experiences. I was in iceland and the temperatures was between -2 - 5? I took approximately 300 shots a day, raw + fine. No biggies on charge loss... I guess so long you keep it close to you.. It should be fine...

Personally if I am shooting I use evf + eye sensor to save batt. Only time I use LCD is to show pictures.

I have the NEX-6 for a short while...Although the cost upfront is cheaper with the Sony NEX I found out that in the end it will cost you more because you need to purchase a better lens on it...the Sony kit lens is not good...Now compared with the Fuji XE2, although upfront u will be paying for more, but that kit lens is sooo good, u do not need to pull our more $$$ to buy better lens (al leasst for the normal zoom range). It burst the common impression that kit lens is bad (at least with Fuji)...Also, if you look at the NEX system lens lineup it is not so good...Although the Fuji X systems lens are also in its toddler state, it is better and the roadmap is good...Fuji is hands-on as we see in their firmware updates....I am also fortunate to sell my Sony NEX and got my Fuji XE2...

I too was in the same boat as you. Basically in my case I sold off my NEX 6 and got an XE1 as I wanted a compact system for timelapse.

But your thoughts are exactly the same as how I felt.

Well, fuji has had a longer legacy than Sony. I miss the days of using Fuji :p

Until FF Fuji mirror lens cam comes. It's confirmed tat they can't use X mount for d FF sensor.

even sony A7/7R need new FE lens for the full frame line up... so it is understandable that new lens is required for FF ;)

It seems to be hard to make small but yet fast full frame lens that match mirrorless camera with the current technology.

Lots of people say look to Leica to learn, but they're forgetting that Leica glass lack Autofocus motors and are already pretty heavy for that small size

Zeiss r bigger. Gotta respect wat Leica can do wif their glasses even without AF.

Its by default intelligent, no need to activate.

thanks for the info... hmm... must be something wrong with my technique then... will try to experiment a bit more cos my image turn out all looks a bit weird.

anyway, another "stupid" question, the lens modulation optimizer only apply to the JPEG file right? if i shoot RAW + Jpeg, will the JPEG get the LMO? cos last time in Canon, all those "optimization" thingy only apply when u shoot JPEG only, when shoot RAW + JPEG will not apply to JPEG. not sure is it the same for Fuji.

Want to ask, fuji mentioned got "inteligent flash" function, but how to activate it? I only seems to find the flash output option available, which are the standard force flash, slow sync, rear curtain?

Well,bro... it's already intelligent. But u can still adjust the power to your liking. :)

Yes. The in built and off camera flash of fuji is very good, it doesnt overexpose or wash out the foreground and darkens the background as other cameras.

Somehow, fuji has a good algorithm to adjust the flash power accordingly and iso to higher than most cameras since iso1600 and iso3200 looks like other camera's iso400 and 800.

Have never like using flash, esp the built in ones on my previous cameras, fuji has created miracle for me.

Weird .. maybe you can elaborate. But from my experience weird flash photos appear from:
1. Too much flash relative to background. Change setting to get better background light balance with flash. Reduce flash exposure. But sometimes background really too dark or bright so may have to change angle for appropriate light balance.

2. Color balance. Flash is daylight colour. If shooting indoors with incandescent lights, its tungsten colour. Therefore your foreground will appear white, while the background yellow. Since you got two different colour light sources, no matter how you try to post process, its a nightmare trying to get all even colours ... What I do is to add a tungsten gel over the flash, so that all light sources are tungsten then either the auto white balance, tungsten balance or custom white balance to correct. If any residual tungsten colour, can easily post process out as all are same light source .. See attached photo for a typical group photo taken indoors with flash (u note from the spectacles reflection that flash was used - the built in flash with extra tungsten gel) .. the foreground and background have even colours ..

good idea indeed. i think my case is a little of both. some pictures the background is bright and the foreground is in shade, i try firing the flash, expecting it to "intelligently" adjust everything, but seems like it's a little too powerful. i did not check the results immediately during that time. only realize it later when i review back the image. and some shots of indoor as well has something that seems like a color cast, which can most likely be solved by your suggestion. he pictures has been deleted on the spot i review them, so nothing to show you guys of, will try again soon and see how well the flash works.

Sample shots comparing Fuji XE2 using onboard flash and tungsten gel with Canon S120 (with and without flash). You can see obviously that the colour balance is much better with Fuji ..

Canon S120 with Flash not white balanced in PS - colour looks uneven

Canon S120 with Flash after white balanced in PS. After correction, some of the white in front looks bluish (the plates). Also cannot get good tones due to mixed flash and tungsten light.

Canon S120 with no flash not white balanced in PS. Without flash, in dim lighting, looks dull.

Canon S120 with no flash after white balanced in PS. Still dull, colour better, but still sickly skin tones. No match for Fuji with gel.

Fuji XE2 with Flash and Gel, before white balance in PS. Even before white balance in PS, still looks decent enough with the auto WB of the camera.
