Fujifilm X-E1 User Group

well, just in case anyone is interested, i rented a zeiss biogon 35mm zm over the weekend to just try. just couldn't get my zeiss itch out of the way! haha
paired with the xe-1, i find that it's a pretty good pairing and manual focusing is pretty decent with the focus peak. it's a little soft wide open, but when stopped down to f4, it's as sharp or close to the fuji 35. nice looking bokeh and colours as well. however, the minimum focusing distance is 0.7m which is pretty far for my liking. overall, very nice lens to use and i'd have swap it for my fuji 35 if not for the focusing distance.

unfortunately, no experience with this lens on other bodies for any comparisons.

Hi guys,

I have a problem with my XE1.

There's a line of black on the top half of my screen and in the viewfinder.

But the images come out ok. Anyone has a similar problem? Is there something wrong with my lcd?

Can't seem to find anything on Google.

Just to follow up sharing on the problem.

So I went to Fujifilm service centre today. And showed the CSO my camera. She in turn brought it up to her technician.

Lo and behold. Apparently, my photo format was set to L 3:2 and that had frame lines. Once the Format was set to L 16:9, the frame lines disappeared. Same thing for the some of the other formats.

Apart from the black line on top, there was one more below which I'd never noticed before.

So I walked out wiser today learning something new. And I'm glad my camera had no problems!

Cheers!

lol.

Price dropping overseas due to rumoured xe-2 but SG still selling kit ard $1530.

U can try technogadget ,XE-1 with Kit lense 18-55 1205sgd. I'm still holding on whether to get XE-1 , waiting for the announcement on oct 18

So after deliberating for a few months, I'm finally the proud owner of an X-E1/18-55mm! :D

Couple of questions for you guys: firstly, it's the first time I've got a lens hood - is it ok to store the camera with the lens hood on? It rests on the bottom of the lens hood, and seems to be putting pressure on the lens barrel, a bit?

secondly, any wrist strap recommendations? I'd like to keep the bulk down so I don't want a shoulder strap, although a thin one is a last resort if I can't find a good wrist strap. Preferably one that won't cost much coz I'm saving up for the 35mm f1.4 next month :P

Lastly, I updated the firmware on both camera and lens but my AF speeds seem to be a bit slower than this youtube video I saw of a guy testing AF speed after the new firmware. It sort of goes through the entire focus range before locking focus. Not too slow, but I was expecting a bit faster :P

Thanks guys!

my hoods are all still in the box lol

I use gordys but have since switched to a&a strap.

depends on what lens the guy is using. for the 60mm there was significant improvement and slight for the rest

Haha I see :P I think I'll be using mine, so was just wondering. Always super-careful with any new gear the first couple of weeks lol

I used gordy's on my X20 and found it a bit too stiff. The size was too small, but I think even the longer one will not be too comfortable for me. I love A&A but can't afford :P

If i'm not wrong, the guy was testing the same 18-55mm. I need to use mine more, but from what I noticed, it tends to hunt a bit even in good light.

Loving the camera anyway! It's my third X series (X10, X20, now this) so the system is extremely familiar

Mine felt like it hunted less in good (and bad) light. Were both the lens and body firmwares updated?

try switching to mf and using back button focusing. i use this for the 60mm

Thanks for the replies, guys - nice tips, I'll try 'em out! Yes, I updated both lens and body firmware (ver. 2.0 for the X-E1, ver 3.0 for the lens). I have no problem with it, when I think about it, coz I don't often need fast focusing. But it's nice to be able to lock focus fast when I need to, and besides, when I see that video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2wBpf8DlNE) testing AF speeds with the X-E1/18-55mm, it just looks faster than mine, even in that dim light

Regarding the strap, I think I'll go for the cheaper A&A option, the cloth shoulder strap. Being soft, it won't add much bulk, I think - and it looks great!

oh and one more question: remote shutter release? i'm finding it pretty difficult to find the RR-80/80A on eBay, and the ones that I find are pretty expensive. I saw a cheaper option, a brand called Ex-Pro (?!) that makes an RR-80 copy. Anyone tried? If not, what are you using? I prefer a cable release, not wireless. Thanks!

You do not need the RR-80 for the remote shutter to work. Just plug in Canon Rebel Series remote shutter and it works like a charm. I am currently using Phottix remote shutter for the Canon Rebel, cost $12 at most store. I had used Chromage remote shutter (Canon Rebel Series as well) and it works perfectly too.

I'm using a cheap china made one, doesn't even need batteries. Connected via the mini usb port

Oh great, thanks. I'll check out the Phottix one. Cheers
