FujiFilm S5Pro

im just wondering, why does'nt nikon buy the sensor technology from fuji instead of fuji buying the d200 body from nikon. nikon would totally kick canon's ass if they used fuji sensors. (not saying that the sony sensors are bad tho hehe)

i like the idea of the s5pro but ... it would be tons better if the cam had a nikon logo instead of a fuji one.
Stick a nikon logo over it?

I think it is the other way round - Fuji doesn't want to sell the sensor to Nikon (they do have a cult following, right?) and Fuji can't do their own SLR mount and lens (although they are good and renowned at video camera and medical lenses). Partnering with Nikon is a good way for Nikon to sell more lenses (where real money is, bodies are cheap pieces of plastic) and Fuji to sell their sensor.

well...it really depends...coz w.o a verty grip.. i hav a feeling that the weight distribution may not be as "interesting" ...tt way, i'd prob get another s3pro since speed was never an issue to me....

Don't discount the S5Pro yet. It is still in the development phase, features are not fixed yet.

Size of batteries is not a concern. You'll have 3rd party makers anyway.
I'm more concerned about incompatible pin info.

Most interesting bit so far was the buffer. It used to be 3fps , 200MB. Now, its said to be 5fps and 288MB. Hope they push for more improvements... especially their wide-dynamic range feature

Price wise, there was a bit in the dpreview forums. It will be "well under (USD)$2000). At say, 1.6K, I think it will be pretty competitive.

We probably all agree that Fuji sensors are in a class of their own, standing well against Sony/Canon's. Indeed, it is a sad thing that Nikon does not adopt Fuji's sensor fully. It is not that Fuji doesn't want to sell Nikon but it has been mentioned a few times by Nikon in their interviews that Fujifilm's sensors are too expensive.

I guess if Nikon really went all out , to hell with price, Fuji would have built a FF sensor for Nikon. It would be a very very interesting combo vs the rumored Canon HDR 5D. Their 2003 SR sensor is getting a bit outdated. Again, at the end of the day, its all about profits.

Then again, if Nikon management really went all out, my dream was that they work with Foveon and Fuji. 3 Layered Foveon sensor with the Fuji high/low sensor in their original layout...

well u see the issue with third party developers would basically be whether if the grip really works like it should...like an mb-d200 for that fact... :D

but like u said...i wun discount it so soon...i'd wait for it to be released before i make some real conclusions :D

cheerios..

Just received news from a dealer in the US that the launch has been formally scheduled for Feb 2007. Sale price is US$1999 for the kit and US$1899 for body alone. Kit lens type was not specified. I would expect body only street price to be in the region of S$2800 or so when it gets to our shores, that's pretty reasonable as it's similar to the D200 when it first launched. It's coming folks!

read this update?

got the email from tallyn's store too with regards to the price as quoted by Terence.

wonder what lens is being bundled....

Hmm, guess they are rushing this one out sooner and still trying to keep cost low. There goes the 5fps... oh well..

I think the IQ will be just an incremental increase from s3pro.

Is it 3fps? I thought it is 1.5fps at wide DR? anyway getting 5fps might be a double edged sword like the D200's banding issues. Maybe fujifilm is more concerned ove IQ than fps which is good for people like me who don't need 5fps.... At least I am assured that Fujifilm places IQ above everything else

I am still thinking of when I need 5fps where 3fps will not suffice ???

sports and action. shooting insects in motion.. i want 5fps because it is impossible to time your shot to get the wings open in a nice position. With higher fps, it's easier to get that 'nice pose'.. with 3fps.. i have to try and try.. and most of the time.. the little fella would have ran away.

wonder how the buffer is on tis thing

Presently using nikon thought of getting a S2 Pro as a back up
curious about the battery life and the market resale price of this camera second how much?
any brudders can feedback to me about this camera
Thanks or maybe PM me

Oh man, this is RADDD... :>

Given D200 and S5pro to choose from, which one will you guys go for? And Why?
I would like to make up my mind before the 7% GST kicks in....

well....for me...i'd still go for the s5..since speed is not an issue for me....

S5 for me.
i shoot 1 frame at a time/sec. so the 3FPS or 5FPS is really not needed.

i dun need 10mp all the time. easier to handle a 6mp dslr too.
and i love fujifilm's colors. ;p

i think i join queue for s5pro also :bsmilie:
