Honestly from the night pix, I cannot see any discerning advantage over the F31 nor even the F20:think:

agree, n not to mention an inferior batt life. I'll pass e F50...

actually, there has been a lot of reviews with ISO testing... seriously F50fd fails to live up to its expectations in terms of noise control..

its really really bad... dun believe my words, go check it out...

I thought its shutter lag and face recognition response was rather impressive

honestly, i think a lot of people are disappointed because they thought it would be a worthy successor to the f31fd. however, since it was not, it might have suffered from a slightly biased point of view.

not owning the f31fd before, my unbiased opinion is that it is still a great cam and not being better than the f31fd doesn't make it terrible.

but as axela said, i did buy it because of the SD card, not so much the 12MP.

I assume you took the red M&M photo at night? Did you use a tripod to take the photo? The photo looks awfully sharp to be taken hand-held at 1/4s... Mine was pretty dark taken at 1/25s (my photo of the same M&M)..

hello.. yeap, i took it at night time.. hand-held. i was surprised the photo didn't get too blurred out.. perhaps the image stabiliser does work to a certain extent.. however, i did do a sharpen filter in the end on photoshop cause i like photos to be crisp and sharp.. ;p

Sad news for me, last night I dropped my 1.5 years old F30 and now it doesnt work anymore (cannot turn on to take photos, can only playback). So it looks like its time to shop for another super PnS, I'm a bit disappointed to read the reviews of the F50 thus far.

From the sample photos of the F50 here, I notice similar lines / banding problem that plagued the F11 (and some F10s). I used to own an F11 and the banding drove me nuts. I went to Fuji service center so many times but they couldnt do anything about it, even swapping to a new camera was no use. Glad they fixed it in the F30/F31, but looks like it may be back again with the F50. But there's no other option out there for a small camera with good high ISO performance now, sigh... how how?

Edit: After looking at more ISO1600 photos, it looks like the banding isnt as bad as it was on the F10/F11... plus that SD card slot looks tempting... now if only they'd have a version with 28mm wide angle.

Edit: I went ahead and just bought the F50 anyway. Took some handheld night shots along Boat Quay, mostly at ISO800. Not too bad lah, the lower CA compared to F30 is a nice improvement. Another plus point is that the F50 is noticeably slimmer than the F30.
