FujiFilm F50fd Sample Pics for technical discussion - Unedited, straight from camera

Can anyone post some high-ISO indoor/night hand-held shots. Thanks.

As requested... just a couple more to contribute if anyone's interested.

ISO800, f2.8, 1/56

Some comments which might be concerns to people looking to buy this camera: The colour suffers a little once the ISO hits 800 and beyond, probably due to the limitations of the sensor size plus the 12million pixels cramped into that sensor.

Like most cameras, a cloudy or overcast day will screw up the white balance (quite bad in this case), thankfully its got a setting that allows the user to set the white balance against a grey card.

As mentioned by weixiang_06 earlier in the thread, the fujinon lens is definitely not the sharpest thing out there, but I guess the 12mp more or less makes up for the 'sharpness' with resolution, so downscaling a picture for the web or small prints will make it seemingly 'sharper'. Then again, who uses a compact to shoot and make A2-A3 prints right? Not that its not possible with this baby, but you'll have to accept that its not going to beat any DSLRs when it comes to full-sized printing.

Again, as a another photography-crazy friend of mine always reminds me, we just have to understand the limitations of the camera we are using and work around/with it sometimes, that's what photography is all about right? I mean other than finding nice things/places/people to shoot of course.

Hope this helps for anyone looking to purchase the camera :D

ISO800, f2.8, 1/56

Question on this particular photo.

I see that you have upped the ISO to 800 and it was at f2.8.
Why did you shoot at 1/56?
To put in context the question, I always choose to shoot around 1/20 to 1/30 with f2.8, on Shutter Priority mode, with my 400D with IS and was able to get a non-hand-shaken photo.

Also, Is the IS on the camera good enough for your liking?

I'm thinking of getting this camera as a pocket cam......

Hi Parka,

The camera was set at Aperture Priority actually, so this is what the camera automatically set itself (I found the shutter speed odd also).

To answer your second question abt the IS, it tends to be a mixed bag, I would say you will get AT MOST a 2 stop advantage than w/o IS, and even with the IS I would say the performance of the CCD-shift still needs quite a little bit of work, as compared to Canon's IS (I was seriously considering Canon's Powershot IS 710) or Nikon's VR in their compacts.

It could also possibly be due to my hands being very shaky, its quite hard to get a proper grip on such a small fella and I do have rather large hands. However, the high ISO capabilities of the camera more or less makes up for the somewhat unimpressive performance of the CCD-shift.

I honestly don't really see much of an improvement in 'unblur' shots when switching the IS on/off. If you need a sorta gauge I would say the improvement's at most 25% more useable shots than w/o the IS. Anyhow, my work-around for the subpar IS, is that I always review the picture on the LCD after a shot lah, so it really depends if you have the patience for this kinda thing.

Maybe dreamzcape & Axela would like to share their thoughts on the IS of the F50fd for a wider range of opinions?

My conclusion is, the IS is not that fantastic. If its an important factor for you, you might wanna look at the Canons instead.. :D

Hi guys! jus a friendly reminder!

This is a thread calling for F50fd photos that are unedited, yet to touch-up and straight from the camera.

Please include some exif info such as...
1). Aperture
2). Shutter Speed
3). ISO
4). Flash/Tripod
5). title of photo.

Please do not post photos that are larger than 600X450. these photos are meant for helping potential buyers to determine whether the camera is worth the $$.

Thank You!!

thanks for the many fotos but try to post more high ISO foto for other members to view and gauge.

Just went to a Best Denki and saw that they were selling it at $599.

I didn't really try to test the amount of stops the IS provided but I did a deliberate hand shaking blur test and honestly..IS just seemed nonexistent but could be due to deliberate shaking and maybe the IS only copes with very minor movement, hence still requiring very good technique. I've mainly been coping by using iso400 and faster shutter speeds. And like Jaevus says, I usually shoot and preview, not nice then shoot again.

any possible that it is able to mo?
