Fujifilm F200EXR is a GEM

woww... sound not bad. pls try ur new battery life see how long and how many pic can shot with ur 2500mAh can last for.
please let me know.. Thanks!

has anyone compared the quality of the pic using the diff fuji simulation?

I thought I found that the Astia(Soft) gives sharper pics as compared to Provia(Std) and Vivid more noisy when fooling around on the 1st few days after purchase.

I've since erased the pics coz I thought it was my imagination until I came across this thread.

interesting.... but I prefer my pics softer... it is easier to sharpen but far harder to unsharpen....

What setting do you guys use? a lot of people in dpreview favours 6meg mode and says that there isn't much improvement in 12meg....

Just did some experiment on the 3 simulations.

Astia (cropped and further resized by imageshack)
Left is a notepad, middle is blue LED of spkr and right is a screwdriver. The big blue patch is the reflection of the LED on my matt black PC casing.

On AUTO, 1/14 F3.3 ISO800 DR200 (ALL)

Provia - Colour of the LED on the screwdriver definitely not correct.

Vivid
- additional faint blue patches on the right

I was contemplating between a few cameras... I have a 5DII as my staple, had the G9 as my take anywhere cam, but had been restricted by the bulk (not too pocketable), and not so wide lens, and not too good high ISO performance... So, finally decided to look for a new pnS. A few choices of consideration, Pana LX3, TS-1, or F200EXR.... I wanted to get into some ability to bring my camera into pool to take pict of my kids in swimming pool, not serious diving shoot. So, after some consideration, I just bought F200EXR. So I'm official Fujifilm user now.

First impression, build quality is really not on par with Canon/Panasonic, even on cameras of the similar price range. The interface is a bit outdated as well. However, the image quality had been quite impressive so far.

Question to you guys, is there any recommendation for underwater housing ? I know Fujifilm has an dedicated housing which is around S$280, which is too steep for me for occasional use, and the 40m capability is definitely overkill. Any recommendation ?

Its going to be difficult. If you want it to be water-proof, its better to get a purpose built one like the newly announced Pentax W80:

http://www.pentax.jp/english/news/2009/200912.html or the older W60.

So far quite pleased with my F200EXR. Its still a little bulky for my liking but performance where it matters is good. :)

Hence an LX3 at F/2 will not perform as well as a DSLR kit lens at f/4 in low light.

Hi Just read your post and am intrigued by this statement. I am quite new to this so need your clarification. Do you mean Lumix at f/2 will provide slower shutter speed than DSLR at f/4 in low light?

It means most people only look at the aperture but forget the CCD size which is also very important. The shutter speed will be adjusted based on several factors. The LX3 uses a tiny CCD and tried to compensate by having a bigger aperture. A typical APS-C has a much bigger CCD, allowing it to catch more light with lesser noise.

Thanks for the info. Right now on my 450D in low light, I get shutter speed of 1/10 at f/3.5 ISO 1600. Do you think I can get a faster shutter speed on LX3 at f/2? Thank you.

Under the same lighting condition you should be able to get close to 2 stop advantage with f2, so roughly 1/35 shutter speed. But your 450D will give you a much cleaner image at 1600 ISO compared to LX3.

Hi chopper. So in this scenario, what ISO would the LX3 be likely to be at?

didn't wanna start a new thread for this.

Is it my imagination or was there really a 'STICKY' F200 sample pic thread?

Seems to be missing now.:(

You are not alone, I was looking through it yesterday and it was gone this early morning.

Anyway, I just bought the f200; still exploring now.

Hi,

I just got the f200 recently and while exploring the camera, I realised that image size would always default to M(4:3) in P mode after I on/off the camera or switch to some other shooting modes.

Is this normal?

is manual F-stop control for this camera only at F3.3 and F9? Dun seem to find the ans here.

hi,

anyone can advise the pricing for this camera? am thinking of getting this as my backup to my dslr.

Thanks.

The package price of the F200 EXR has been in the region of $450-$500 for quite a while.

Am too using it as a backup.

For rainbird, burningacid & egnaro, the aperture settings for manual mode depends on the focal length of your F200 EXR. At 28mm (its wide end), you can only set at either f/3.3 or f/9. At 140mm (it's extreme telephoto end), you can set at either f/5.1 or f/14. Different settings in between the zoom range.

Actually, it's all documented on page 34 of the Basic Manual (included).

thanks senior. seems like manual mode is pretty limited... picture quality really looks good though.

I am undecided which color to get. Black or silver?:dunno:
