Latest update : the shop which i preordered fm told me that x100 will b delayed till mid April. Sian n sad.

Bro, think what's happening back there in the home of Fuji. I think delays will be longer -maybe 6 months or so.

Deposit stuck there lol...now really make me lose interest in x100

The delay making me look seriously at the ricoh gxr and the 28mm a12 module anyone has experience with it image quality comparable?

went down to HN, they allow myself to withdraw from my pre-order and 100% refund of all $ paid up earlier this month during IT show.

Hi,

HN at Jurong Point???

I share the exact same sentiment as u. Because of the delay and also some pics that I saw taken with the X100, I am slowly losing interest in it and seriously considering the Ricoh GXR + A12 28mm combo..

I just gave up for now and got a 2nd hand NEX5 for SGD530 with the 16/2.8. When the X100 hits Dubai, I might upgrade if they aren't asking for some crazy price.

Wife just checked for me - Best Denki has them on pre-order for SGD1699. Sheesh.

Yep have seen some reports that mentioned gxr having better colors and image quality abit without the viewfinder unless u get attachment

This is purely my opinion about the worth systems. Since someone started talking about GXR vs X100, I could contribute a little about my thoughts.

I was very excited (like most others) about the X100 when it was shown in Photokina last year. However, when I saw the sample pictures of the X100 (and looking at the 1.7k SGD price), I knew I made the right choice in the GXR A12. This is the Fujifilm section, all I can say is the image quality of X100 does not comes close to GXR A12. But I must say that the X100 is a nice retro-designed camera with modern offerings and looks fun in handling. There are pros and cons to GXR and X100 of coz. If you are looking for image quality, GXR A12 will be a better choice, a lower price tag and easier to buy. Feel free to look at sample pictures of both cameras on flickr or other photosharing sites. Do take note of the iexif also, to see if they are photoshopped.

I have no conflict of interest here because I have already sold off my GXR to a nice gentlemen. I sold it off because I simply love playing with cameras and keep myself updated with the current offerings. It's a personal hobby. :)

Hi fotoPhilic,

As per your experience with the gxr how does it compare for image quality wise in the high iso with the x100, the speed of the autofocus vs the x100 for street photography and the performance of the evf attachment of the gxr vs the evf of the x100. Is the x100 worth the extra money over the gxr in the above cases?

Yeah, we need real comparison pictures by viewing side to side in here.

Hi,

Image quality in high iso - it is comparable. I would pick x100 for lesser noise. I would pick GXR for the faithful color reproduction in high iso. As for the noise reduction aspects of x100 I am not too sure, because the images looks a little soft. Most of the good sharp sample pictures i saw online are post processed. I am not a fan of post processing; but well, it means the x100 files are quite good for off camera tweaking. GXR files are pretty good too.

Autofocus - i would say X100. from the videos, it seems like x100 is faster. If you are talking about street photography, snap mode on GXR is quite useful. Instant shooting, no need AF. I believe you can do something similar on the X100, how convenient or not i am not sure. Exactly how accurate the AF on the X100 is in slightly difficult situations i am not sure. I will need to handle one to tell. GXR is pretty ok in this aspect, but its nothing to shout about.

EVF - i would say X100. I hate the fact that the EVF is pertruding out of the GXR camera. It is helpful if u tilt the EVF, but i do not do it. I can always use LCD if shooting awkward positions. X100 hybrid viewfinder looks good, when it is not in the EVF mode. I voted for X100 because i do not care if it is optical or EVF, as long as it gets the job done, and well. I am not sure about the VF misalignment thing, but it should be a quick fix from the service centre, if your set happens to get it.

Worth the money? To me no. 1.7k is too much to pay for, to me. If it is 1.2k, i would probably give it a go because i really like the physical outlook of the X100. I value the user interface, image quality, GR lens quality and image rendering (there are more things to image quality other than iso issues) of GXR more than the physical outlook of X100. It just fits in nicely when you use it and all things you need to use are in place on the GXR. Its a personal choice as others may not share similar wants like mine. To use x100 as a camera, i should satisfy most people, if you do not compare.

For side by side comparisons of image quality, i would be happy to do it if i can get my hands on a X100. My comments were solely based on what i found so far, nothing scientific or fair, to some. But my findings and the situation we have for the X100 is enough to put me off paying so much to get it. Like all other comments you see online, i hope you can think what is for you and what is not. Who knows, i could be wrong about x100.

i do not think i should carry on talking about the GXR here, since this is about x100. :)

Still learn how to shoot ... currently everything auto. X100 is fun to use!

NEX5 with a good lens in front -> X100 may not be an upgrade :-)
If the E-mount 24mm Zeiss comes out soon, then can forget about the X100 liao!

I was hoping the same thing

Actually, I had my reservations about the NEX-5 at the start, but since I got my hands on one fairly cheap, I gave it a shot. The v3 firmware helped in that I could map the scroll wheel button at the back to 3 menus accessible by hitting left or right after activating it - I have mine mapped to ISO, WB and Focus mode, with the secondary soft button at the bottom mapped to metering mode. The scroll wheel controls aperture and shutter speed by toggling the down button on the wheel itself, or either aperture/shutter in aperture/shutter priority mode.

Not as elegant as the X100, but hey, I can't get my hands on the X100, so this will do for now. Tempted to pick up an 18-55 lens since I only have the 16/2.8 for now

I don't know about the other comparisons , but from my view , you can't compare the hybrid and this semi rangefinder .

It has a optical view finder , i think this one still the only stuff in this class , no competitors yet to be found .

I do use the optical view finder for my panning shot ;-)

Been saying that all this time, and I'll probably get it once it's available here next month. Until then, the NEX5 is a decent stopgap. Would love to see what CZ lens options I have with the NEX that brings it up to a 35mm equivalent so I can run comparisons when the X100 comes in (eventually)

From the photos we've seen so far, looks like the x100 would be a fun street shooter. i'm hooked by the hybrid viewfinder as i don't really like EVF's. the design alone is worth the price in my own twisted mind. waiting for camera announcements this coming april from the other manufacturers. interested to see if nikon will bring out a similar retro looking camera in this category. :)
