In other words, those cant afford it just wanna slam it? A case of sour grapes?

Think most can afford, in singapore to fork out 1-2k is really not that hard but some just want to find excuse not to own one.
Like i also looking for excuse not to own a rolex deep sea diver watch.:bsmilie::bsmilie:

Really interested in this camera. been following for a long time and finally it's about to release. anyone know if pre-ordering is available?

wah ..
nice case and external flash ( optional )

It's confirmed. The local RRP is $1,699 and will come with a 16 G card and a case. Available by mid-March. So the expected street price should be around $1,400. ;)

where'd you get that from? the case is supposed to be an external accessory, right?

From my dealer. He showed me the fax that FujiFilm sent out to all their dealers on the the X100. The fax does not say which case. I'm hoping it's the half case but will not be holding my breath over it. They will probably bundle the cheapest case they have with the camera.

Oh, dealer selling at RRP?? Any idea on the availability? The production run seems to be pretty limited.

I think the free case will be standard fujifilm, we might have to dish out maybe 80-100 or more for the leather case

The anticipation for the x100 is killing me ;p

Most dealers will probably sell at street prices after discount while the chain department stores will usually sell at RRP. The fax says mid-March but I think it might be available before then by the time of the IT Show. Better reserve your set with your favorite dealer if you want to get a set during the first run.

Oh okay, thanks for the info - cleared up some major questions. I will make enquiries with all the major photo stores, usually I buy from TK foto but they dont stock fujifilm so I have sent enquiry to Cathay Photo. I am overseas right now so might need to ask my dad to help me get it. Ahh I will be soooo frustrated if I don't get it in March, in time for my next assignment  . Do you have an idea on which is a good dealer to buy Fujifilm products from?

I found this thread in DPREVIEW.. So funny yet true.

If you were to go and talk to actual street photographer, you would then know how good this camera will be.

You and I buy cameras to meet our photographic goals. For me the X100 means I will have a stealthy, lightweight and mobile camera for street and carry-everywhere.

For the measurebators and calibrationists cameras are high precision gadgets to be compared for their minutia. Lines per mm in the centre and compared to the edges and corners. Accuracy in all aspects.

Camera collectors, see them as prized investments.

Camera buffs see them as extensions of their manhood and wear them as jewelery.

Fanbois worship a specific brand, and their whole self-image is destroyed when a rival brand edges ahead for the moment. Emotionally, they are forever 13 and may not even own a camera. A Nikon, Canon and yes a Fuji is their object of longing.

Bokeh obsessives seek the f/0.95 500mm lens that will finally break the one millimeter depth of field barrier, guaranteeing that not more than five pixels will actually be in focus in any shot they take.

Rich dentists buy very expensive cameras—because they can.

However, all these people do buy cameras. If they did not, the tools of our trade would be vastly more expensive.

Very true, especially for any type candid photography. With the X100 you basically have the image quality of a d300s, because a similar sensor is used. Plus, great build quality, great ergonomics, hybrid VF and the size make it ideal for Photojournalism or Street. I plan to do a self funded story on the illegal hashish trade in the Himalayas, which will require me to be very very stealthy, and I obviously can't take a 5D Mark II + 24-105 to document this story. The X100 has the perfect PJ prime, the 35mm f/2. You can find a similar lens offering from Nikon and Canon, but both the Canikon lenses are not as good as the fixed fujinon in my opinion.. And they are very plastic so they will not survive the 12,000ft height.. and looking at the ISO performance samples, I am totally sold.

I don't care if this camera doesn't have 20 megapixels, I don't care if it can support M mount lenses, I don't care if it isn't full-frame and I don't care if it's Fujifilm.

This camera is not aimed at the average consumer, it is a limited edition for a niche - Photojournalists and Street Photographers who want a compact, lightweight system which works in demanding conditions and a digital counterpart of the classic rangefinders like Contax, Hexar etc. , minus the focusing mechanism...

I completely agree with the above post

The story you are pursuing sounds very interesting, but I would be damn careful - every year more than a few foreigners find themselves on the wrong end of the illegal drug trade and turn up, well, dead.

www.brandonremler.com

^^a huge number of sample pics and tests of the x100 are available in the "blog" section. Basically the first semi comprehensive 'review' of the X100 from first hand experience.

looks very promising..

BTW, i dont think street price will be anything less than 1650. USA - b&h adorama j&r amazon etc. are all selling at 1200 usd, which translates to 1528 SGD. this is excluding tax. I expect the street price to be from 1630 to 1699 maybe with some freebies.

EDIT:

UPDATE - I have confirmed pricing with a well reputed shop. The price is 1699 with freebies - 16gb sd + bag. no news from fujifilm on the external accessories. Limited Stock Arriving 12 March 2011, coinciding with IT show.

So did you also confirm what is the best street price after discount from your reputed shop? ;)

Street price is $1500/- Filter size is 49mm. It has a front adapter ring that needs to be unscrewed and be replaced by a filter if you wish

No I have never dealt with the shop before. I am reserving the camera for the stated deal. Just reserved one through another clubsnap member. I REALLY doubt the street price is gonna be 1400, maybe it will be after 6 to 7 months, depending on demand, sales etc. But right now, I'm 99% sure because US prices from B&H,J&R,Adorama, Amazon etc. tend to be the norm. In New Zealand, it's 1999 NZD. SG prices tend to be more or less based on the US prices, maybe a little higher.

1199 USD = 1524 SGD

add tax and that gives you 1650 more or less

1699 makes sense considering u get the sd card plus the bag

believe me, i would love it if i can find a cheaper deal, but i dont think i will..
