Hey Guys, I'm been getting used to the X-E1 and the Kit lens... but the only thing I can't seem to do properly is macro!
Any advice/tips/tricks ? (Short of buying the 60mm macro - which I am reading is not really a full macro)

You can't really do macro with the kit lens. The minimum focusing distance is pretty large. The AF also seems to be unable to focus when you reach the minimum distance. The closest you can get is to zoom in and use manual focus.

get a Raynox macro lens, or get the 60mm macro if you need high magnification. The kit lens is not really ideal for macro as it offers only 0.15x max magnification at 55mm.

There is a macro function. It shoots close enough for me with the 35mm but don't expect a true macro.

The 60mm lens does only 0.5x magnification, there is no 1.0x macro lens for the Fuji.

Focus works awesomely well with Manual Focus lenses... Love this feature on my previously owned NEX 7 with my Leica M lenses..

lol, of course it does. Like any other filter it has nothing to do with the lens.

The X100s has PDAF, a new firmware alone won't help.

Check out this video to understand better on d new PDAF focus speed and the 2 Manual Focus assist... Split Image Focus Assit only works on PDAF sensor, so unlike to feature in the XP1 & XE1. Focus Peaking is however possible. We shall see.

Also, now the Auto ISO in X100s offers ability to set minimum shutter speed which is what is lacking in XP1 & XE1 Auto ISO feature...
