Fuji X-E1 and new compact coming! Thread II

Shows that Fuji marketing is working - god knows how many people bought the camera on looks alone! :bsmilie:

I'm not complaining - I'm the direct beneficiary of one of those guys who bought the camera & found it did not live up to the hype! I can only wish there are more guys like that - I would really hate to have to buy that 10-24 zoom brand new! ;)

Indeed, the look alone is something to buy for :-).

I'm a beneficiary as well, from someone who bought a whole set just to get the zoom lens for his existing XE1.

As for those selling, well, they like something else. As for us, let's just continue and have fun, taking pictures of course, not fondling it

Fun, with Summicron 50mm DR, cropped a bit

Nice!

Joining the family!

There is no doubt in my mind that X-E1 is capable of producing stunning images, especially OOC Jpegs. The only gripe is its inherent inability to focus quickly. That being said, before i got the camera, i was aware of the XE-1's shortcomings so i was more or less prepared. I guess some others simply bought the camera based too much on other's recommendations instead of their own "feel". 1 man's meat is another man's poison.

End of d day. Outstanding IQ is most impt to me. Anyway, d AF improves quite alot after a few firmware updates. Now, where is my focus peaking, Fuji? Hmm

I think most people buy cameras just based on reviews without playing around with them themselves before.

Same here. Yes, focus peaking ...

The EVF lag certainly is a bigger problem I hope they fix in the next version too, as I always shoot in dim light, or in the studio, at least with manual focus lenses, and it surely makes me miss some shots or take a long time to MF. I think they need more processing power inside.

I just met my friend and he just bought the Olympus package with the external viewfinder, while waiting for his M, according to him the Olympus VF2 EVF is exactly the same one Leica M will have, rebranded and probably 3x the price :). The Olympus VF2 EVF is less resolution and grainier than the clean Fuji, but it is this grain and its contrast that makes it a lot easier to manual focus without even thinking of focus peaking. Leica did well not to reinvent the wheel in the meantime. Anyway, here is hoping Fuji includes focus peaking in its next camera version, then it will be a really good EVF (if no lag !). I prefer this over the rangefinder type focus, as that one is only in the middle.

True True... EVF lags is one issue during dim lighting shooting. For now just gotta live with it. OVF will be a better option for such a scenario. Wondering who tried fixing an OVF on the hotshoe to test before?

The new M will be delayed further to April and so, we shall see in good time the comprehensive performance of it. Focus peaking is not very likely for the existing XP1 or XE1, it seems. Hope the future FF X will have it, also having a better performing EVF will be crucial. Above all, the IQ of the X Trans sensor must be there. Cheers

Well, I have no problem with EVF lag when using AF, the camera does the work even if the subject is "shaking" in the EVF. Problem is manual focusing with EVF lag, where I have to do the work :-), and OVF won't help.

Haha ... I was thinking of it, but ultimately I decided enough of the old days of spending a lot. So I'll just wait for XE2 ...

However, never say never :)

Yeah. Let's c how d new ff X cam b first?

Agree with the IQ and the AF slow...

BUT, I got my 35mm f1.4 lens... loving it! (Other than the super slow AF)...

My brother was jealous so he went and got a 50mm f1.8 for his Sony E-Mount...

I still think mine's better... =P

Pictures coming soon....

Edit: I find that the Exposure Comp dial is easily moved. (Took a few pictures outdoors, did not notice due to the glare that all my pictures were super dark, due to exposure comp accidentally dialed to -2)... can't wait to get a thumbsup or lensmate...

Well, if it comes, and I hope price is not ridiculous, then it's good :-). I have been using full-frame for a long time, especially medium format which is in a league of its own, but I actually like APSC and m4/3 too, each have their use. Anything will do, full frame doesn't excite me like others, just another format for me. I am seriously interested too in the Sigma DPM series, with even more shortcomings than the current standards in performance, but a beautiful output when done right. But it will probably frustrate many.

I just ordered some rubber rings from eBay, to put around this exposure dial and prevent it from moving on its own ...

A Lensmate too, just curious to see if it is not too cramped after all and if I still prefer the X100 Thumbs Up. I just like the idea of being able to lock it (although I saw some Asian-made ones that are similar, and cheaper)

Try to go into Continuous Mode for auto focus (the switch is in front of the camera), but utilizing it like Single Focus, it's fast to lock, after the latest update. Only in emergencies, since it will drain battery faster.

EOS M? I thought OMD would win at least. Looks like more people will be buying Fuji.

Just picked up X-E1 body 2 days ago and uncertain on the different features. I used to own the X-Pro1 and i distinctly remembered that there was a focus peaking like aspect in that you can see very slight silver edging when you magnify for manual focus.

I was surprised that the X-E1 did not have the same feature. On magnification, I did not see the silver outline indicating edges that are in focus. Is this the major difference between the X-Pro1 and the X-E1?

Regardless, I prefer the X-E1 for the small body profile and mainly pairing it with Leica 35s. I still love using my M9 but with the Hawk's factory helicoidal adapter, I can do damn good close-ups with Leica glass on the X-E1.

Honestly I think Fuji has got a real winner in this product range and I can't wait for the X-E2 with the newer manual focusing aids.
